Fill Capacities of Certain Band Types

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I am a relative n00b to the world of banding. One thing intriguing me is that, looking at different users' signatures, there seem to be some bands which have a fill quantity of only 4cc's, while others go up to 10cc's!

Is a certain "brand of band" a certain capacity?

The only type of band I had ever heard of before joining this site was the InaMed Lap-Band, which i gather is the original "brand". This is what I have (7 days post-op and feeling good, baby!)

Does anyone know what the fill capacity of this particular brand is? I (obviously) haven't had a fill yet and I haven't had a chance to ask my surgeon. What if you have a 4cc band, but that's not enough restriction for you?

I know that some of these are probably stupid questions, but hey - it's an anonymous website! :grouphug:

Thanks!

I have an Inamed 4CC. He doesn't decide what he is going to put in until he is in the surgery and sees the size of your stomach. He said most women have small stomachs and he uses the smallest band. Even with mine empty, it was already "tight" because it was smaller (to my understanding). I asked him about the different sizes and everything, he smiled and said not to worry, he can get me as restricted as I want with any of the bands. (one of the girls I met at my Dr.s office, has the 4CC band, and had like 1.2 put in and she was completely stopped, couldn't drink or anything) Her perfect fill was .something.

Inamed currently has 5 different band sizes. I will place the max fill volume next to each size for your reference.

9.75cm - 4cc

10cm - 4cc

VG (VanGuard) 10cc

APS - 10cc

APL - 14cc

Cool, I didn't realize there were 2 different ones that were 4CC - so I looked at my documentation and I have the 9.75 Inamed. Thanks for the clarification. Oh, and right now, I have 1.6 in mine (had my first fill on Monday)

I cant believe it myself! The first week, on liquids, I only lost 3lbs, the rest has been in the past 2 weeks and I am actually eating, getting full and staying full. I can't believe this really works (for me). I was so scared I would be one of the ones it doesn't work for.

Wow, I didn't realize it was so complicated!

Thanks for your responses! I'll definately have to ask my surgeon at the end of the month when i go for my first fill!

Annie.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
