Question About Eating

Recommended Posts

DOES EVERYONE CUT ALL OF THEIR food UP REALLY SMALL WHEN THEY EAT OR IS IT JUST THE meats THAT YOU HAVE TO CUT UP REALLY SMALL. I HAVEN'T HAD A FILL YET SO I HAVEN'T BEEN DOING THIS BUT I ALSO DON'T SHOVE FOOD DOWN MY THROAT IN BIG PEICES. IAM JUST WONDERING IF IT WILL BE EVERTHING THAT I EAT OR ONLY SOME THINGS.:confused2: AND IS THIS HARD TO GET USED TO? I WOULD IMAGINE THAT IT WOULD BE. MAYBE I SHOULD START DOING THIS NOW...

I rarely eat red meat but if I do, I cut it up verrrrry small. chicken, semi-small. Fish... different story. ;o)

If you are a newbie I'd be cutting things up in tiny pieces and with time you'll learn what you can tolerate and what you can't.

I do little bites of most things---it keeps me slow, and steady----and I don't tend to forget and get carried away---which I tend to do if I am talking or something while I eat.....old habits die hard!!!

I take little tiny bites of everything and chew chew chew now. I didn't start before the band, because I knew I would have to afterwards. I ordered a steak one time, but then I decided not to eat it because it was too dry. I haven't had any problems with anything yet really....but I think I'm just finally at a good restriction level today.

I take tiny bites. If not, I get that wonderful pain in my back. I've never PB'd but if you put too much in the pouch at once it is painful. I didn't have to do this until after my 2nd fill.

I am able to eat just about everything if properly chewed. Only twice have I had an uncomfortable feeling, and both times were because I swallowed before chewing enough. I didn't PB or slime, it was just uncomfortable for a couple of minutes. And, I cut my food up a little smaller than I used to, but not in pea sized piece or anything.

......very very very small pieces-almost shredded, especially chicken. I am almost to the point that I can no longer even eat chicken, which is a bummer because it is my favorite solid Protein food. For now, I mix shredded chicken (like you would do for a baby on finger food) and toss it into a salad with dressing. The dressing wets the chicken shreds down, and I am able to eat it without getting stuck. So far, I am not having trouble with lettuce, so it makes a good meal for me. I mix salsa with a ranch dressing to reduce the calories a little. But I still use real dressing. I hate that low fat low taste stuff. I use just enough to wet the food, not to drench it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
