Anyone get the cost of a defective band paid for?

Recommended Posts

Hello,<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I am 4 1/2 months post op and had a fluoroscopy today. I have a large hole/leak on the band. My surgeon has told me that I will have to pay for a new surgery (another $15 K out of pocket) plus removal of the old band. Any advice? I need help here...I don't have $15K hanging around for another surgery.

The radiologist said that this type of leak was either causes from the installation of a defect in the band. I have contacted Inamed, the band brand, and all they have referred me to were different ways that I can finance a new surgery, disregarding the fact that the band may be defective.

Thanks.

Yes, unfortunately you have to prove the band was defective before it's removed in order for Inamed to pay all the expenses. That's pretty hard to do. So when you have the band removed then you send it to an independent 3rd party for examination and if it was a defect by Inamed they should pay for all your expenses. I would not send the band directly to Inamed as they can then say anything they want.

If it was a surgical error your surgeon should be paying.

Where (specifically) is the leak?

Hello, I had lap-band April 2004. The last few months, I had no restriction. After two fills with no luck, my doc said it appeared that I had a leak in the tube. He said I am the 6th patient with a leaky tube he's had to fix and he's had about the same number of defective ports.

I had the tube fixed yesterday. The surgery went well - I have the port incision reopened along with 5 ot 6 punctures for the lap tools. The doc have the mfg, Inamed, there for the surgery to see that the tubing had split.

I don't know if I'll get anything back from inamed - I am covered by insurance - but there appears to be some sort of reptitive issue. My doc said the 6 tube issues he has covers recent surgeries (3 months) back to my mine - almost 4 years. He says there is a new mfg that is coming out so possibly some market competitive will cause Inamed to do a better quality control job so we don't have to have the do-overs.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
