Hi everyone. I'm so excited because I've made the decision to be banded. I need to do something, my BMI is 58.1 :tongue2:. I've decided to go with Dr. Rod. I've been reading the forums and researching. I'm excited, yet nervous. I know all about the brain hunger and that is what I fear the most. I understand it's a whole new way to eat and I'm ready for that (I think ), just concerned that my brain really has a mind of its own :tt2:.

I'm so thankful for this website. Everyone here has so much to offer - thanks ~ Brenda

Hi Brenda & Welcome - This is a great place for info & support - Yep there is alot of work to be done mentally with the band - it's not the cure all to our food issues - this is truly a lifetime lifestyle change in our eating habits and adding execise into our lifes - but once you reach proper restriction the band is a great help in controling those portions...

Congratulations Brenda, you've found the right place for support along your journey. I haven't gotten my band yet, but my surgery is next week on Good Friday, March 21. Good luck with your journey.

Hello and Welcome!

I'm from north central Kansas myself. I was banded in Topeka, and had a great experience.

You're right about the head hunger. I think (only my opinion) that's what keeps some of us from reaching our goals. I know it's my weakness. I am working on that every day.

Anyway, I saw your post and wanted to welcome you to LBT!

AMEN to head hunger - imho - the whole problem lies in our heads not our tummies - I will still want to eat even though I am phyically full - to bad they can't band our brains too ... I still fight head hunger mostly when I am bored... Just gotta get out of the house - which means spending $$$ - which means I am going broke buying new clothes - but just love my size 12's 10's and even 1 8 .... I love me for doing the work and I love my band for helping me get there...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
