Question on restriction..

Recommended Posts

OK, I have recovered from the "dryed baked fish" incident and I ate mush and drank liquids.< /p>

How much food should I be able to eat? Last night I could only eat a couple of tablespoons of mashed potatoes, a bite or two of cabbage, and a small bite of a hard roll. I also had no problem with a Jello pudding cup (low fat of course).

This am I could only eat about 2-3 Tlb. of oatbran with Peanut Butter in it.

I can swollow without incident, but I just can't hold much.

IS THIS NORMAL?

Thanks fellow bandsters...

Oh, I am at 1.6cc. They gave me a .6cc bump last Friday and I can feel it.

Hmmm... sounds to me like you're learning the realities of restriction, and the limited real estate in your tummy. That meal you had of mashed potatoes, cabbage, hard roll, and pudding--notice something missing? PROTEIN!! All of those things just take up room in your pouch and before you know it you're too full for any real food. ;)

Eating the Protein first is important for just this reason. If you'd started with, say, a piece of chicken, you might have been able to eat most of it. Then wait a while, see if there's room for anything else, and go for the vegetables. Potatoes, Pasta, and bread are guaranteed meal-killers for me because all it takes is a bite or two to completely fill me up.

You can swallow without incident but can't hold much? Yep, you're normal!! :)

Thanks Alex. To be honest I was afraid to try meat after the horrible "golf ball" incident with the cursed dryed fish, LOL.

I know you are right about eatting protien first and I am going to endeavor to do that from now on

Debby, hey, thanks for all your encouragement the other night. I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate it!!

This banded life is really a journey and as in any journey you need to be prepared, eh?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
