Easy Band-New band from Allergan

Recommended Posts

I was skimming the ClinicalTrials.gov site and found this :

EasyBand GOAL Trial - Full Text View - ClinicalTrials.gov

It is a trial for a new band that Allergan, makers of LapBand, have developed. It sounds like it will not have a port and will be controlled with telemetrically, like a pacemaker. Interesting...

Anyone have any thoughts??

I have been watching this product for some time. It seems very interesting...

I have mixed views of the device.

I think only doc's can control it. I doubt they send you home with the remote.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you still go in for an adjustment, you just don't get pricked with a needle to do it. It sounds very interesting to me.

Can you just imagine the future of bands? Someday perhaps they will "auto" adjust? This is exciting.

But (there's always a "but" for me) if I were being banded when it's available it would be a lot to consider... something fresh from the trials vs products that have been in use in the real world longer. If the electronic components break, do you have to get a whole new band or just a new port? Will a microwave make it fill and unfill, if it's on the fritz? Silly yes, but what might interfere with it? Magnets? I don't know. What's the life expectancy of the electronics?

I do think it's very very exciting that the future looks even more promising for banding. But I have to ask the questions, it's my nature. It took two years of my husband being banded to convince me that this might work for me. LOL I figured if he could succeed maybe I can. I had to SEE with my own eyes that he could lose weight and not feel starved or miserable before I did it. I couldn't just trust clinical trials and I didn't know anyone personally who was banded during that two years besides him. (Note: when I say "know anyone personally" I mean having a relationship with someone that's more than just having a couple of conversations with an acquaintance.)

But again, I do believe the future will be better and better, thanks for posting the info.

What if there's a software error? Would you need another surgery?

I guess it's no different than a port flipping, or some such. Just seems like there might be more room for failure when you get computers involved.

That is why I have mixed feelings on this device. I know that if you ahve a pacemaker, you won't be eligible for this device because they are also adjusted telemetrically.

While it does have a similar anatomy to current bands, from what I understand there isn't really a part to inflate/deflate, it will be adjusted similar to a hose clamp, with a twisting mechanism in the interior of the band clasp.

Let's just hope Microsoft isn't developing the software.

also, anyone check the trials out? You may get banded for free?!?!?

Hey, for free I might be able to get over my fear of letting someone else's software run my stomach. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
