Airplane after surgery

Recommended Posts

I am having my band in on the March 18th and have a trip to Hawaii planned for the 9th of May. Does anyone know if the plane trip will be ok? I tried to ask my surgeon but he is really hard to get a hold of.

I flew home from my banding, and have flown since with no issues at all....except now I fit in the seat a LOT better!!!!!

Sometimes if you have a lot of fill, and are known to get air sick, they will recommend an unfill, but unless that is an issue, I don't think there is anything to worry about.

Enjoy Hawaii---it is beautiful!

Welcome to LBT!

A lot of us flew to get our surgery and flew home again right afterwards, and had no problems.

Are you planning on getting a fill before your trip?

I was to fly to Florida to visit my father a week after my surgery when my surgeon told me "absolutely not", something about air pressure blah blah blah.

Wow---my SIL and I went to Mexico for banding, and we flew. We flew home on the 3rd day...with no issues, or no questions from either the surgeon in MX...or our local fill Dr.

She (SIL) flew to Oklahoma when she was about 3 weeks out to a funeral. Then I flew 5 days following my first fill, to Texas, and have flown several times since, and have 2 fills now.....I have never had an issue. I have mentioned flying to MX to my original surgeon, and nothing has ever been said.

In May our monthly support group is all flying to TX to meet, and none of us has said anything about our Dr.'s being worried.

Call your Dr. and ask! Better safe than sorry!

Yes, quite okay. May 9th is about the time of your first fill schedule.

If it were me....have it done when you return. All that fruit you'll want to eat and if you get restriction before ....you will be miserable.

Have fun.

Aloha

After the Doc OK's it I would be sure to get up and walk the aisles often. That is a long flight and you don't want blood clot issues. Have fun

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
