StephC's PS journey/I got approved!!

Recommended Posts

thanks Becky! I have UPMC (western PA) - I got approved on my first try but really feel it had alot to do with the doctor. My friend from support group has the same insurance and different ps doctor and she only got the panney. So I think it has alot to do with the doctor and how well they submit it. Don't give up, its gonna happen for you!

You look great Steph!!! Today at the Dr. I was looking at a magazine, and looked down where I am usually pulling and tugging at my tshirt--and there was a flat belly---I about cried!!!

EEEEE steph you look AWESOME!!! And Kat, I was so happy to hear that little victory. I have no idea what it's like to have a flat belly, I have always had a Buddha belly as a kid, and then just hanging flab as a teenager.

Looks like unless a financial miracle happens I am planning plastic surgery in spring of 2009 - BUT the good news is I will be debt free (except car loan and student loan). So it's a huge step to look forward to. I refuse to get the loan until I'm clear of everything else.

Congrats again ladies!!

Steph...what's the biggest surprise of being in the flatlands?

Steph and Kat....yea for the flat belly!!!!!!! I so hope to get one soon. I have one question for y'all. After the surgery and they remove the excess skin, does it have any effect on the upper thighs? My insurance wouldn't cover that for sure and they are horrible so I'm just hoping that the pannicolectomy might help me there.

thanks everyone - I feel great!

Biggest suprise is after I shower I used to have to pull the flab of skin up and dry underneath, now I go to pull it up and its not there! After almost a month and I'm still shocked when I feel down there and its not there. Kinda like what Kat said, we've lived with the belly for so long that when we catch a moment like that its just like WOW is that me?

I don't think it affected my thighs except that I notice the loose skin on them more. I think thats only bc my belly used to be the worse feature and the rest I always felt like they weren't that bad (like the arms and thighs and LONG boobs) but now that the tummy is tight the rest seem to pop out a bit more. But oh well - I got the flat tummy I always wanted so I guess I'll live with the rest of my imperfections.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
