In Fill Limbo!

Recommended Posts

Ok All, here is my situation, I am an old time bandster, I had mine done on September 23rd 2004 and I was successful until July of 07, I went to my primary doctor and he said I was loosing muscle mass and to get my band emptied and start eating alot of Protein. So, I did and I could eat anything cause I had no restriction, well in December I went back after my Dr cleared me to get a fill. I got one and It did not feel like anything happened. NO Restriction at all, I have a 4cc band and he put 1cc in and I went back 3 weeks later and he put another .75cc and NOTHING. I have another appt on Friday and I am going to see if I can get a Berium Swallow to see what is up! I hope my band does not have a hole in it, but that is what I a thinking, I think I have a slow leak in my band. Thank God it's only Water. WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK!? Jennifer:crying:

I think that you need more fill so far you only have 1.75 in a 4 cc band, sounds like the dr. is very conservative on is fills. thats my 2 cents worth i also havea 4 cc fill but have 3cc and feel just right..

I have the new 14cc band and had 4.6cc put in on my first fill about a month ago and feel like nothing has been done also. I am hoping to go back next week for another fill and hopefully will feel something this time

How much was originally in your band before the unfill? It would make sense to me that you need to go back to close to that amount again. I could understand if the Dr. doesn;t want to fill the same amount all at one time. If you have an appt on Friday, then he told you to come back, right? So maybe he is just getting you slowly back to close to the original amount of fill?

Well, if you were new you would have gotten a 2cc for a first fill...but you've had the band a while....your doctor is doing this safely with your history.

Don't waste your time or money on any test or anything. Just go back in for another fill.

Once you get to 2.5 - 3cc....that's when most get the restriction. So get to 3 and if you still don't have restriction...do the barium swallow test.

1.75 cc's is not that much. My doctor does up to 1.8 for the first fill in a 4cc band and up to .8 cc's for the 2nd fill. I had no restriction with the first 1.8 cc's and had a fill today of .8 cc's. I can surely tell that I have restriction now at 2.6cc's total. A HUGE difference. I think you just need a little more fill.

Wow! You and I are only 2 days apart in our surgery dates! Awesome! You need a fill! I just got another fill last week and I'm at 3.0 in my 4.0 band. I finally have restriction and feel great. This is the best fill I've ever had. I can still eat some and not slime or throw up. I feel it's the first time I've hit a "sweet spot". SO, if I were you, I'd go in a couple of segments. Get a fill, try it for 10-14 days, and go back and back until you are just right and losing. I had to do an unfill in Dec. and I went back 4 times to get to 3.0 and get it where I needed it. And, I have to drive 5 hours each way. I went every 10-14 days until I was where I needed to be. DO IT! Good luck!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
