Banded by Dr Lopez this past thursday!

Recommended Posts

Hi, it's Rhonda from Ga. I am now officially banded as of last thursday

by the wonderful Dr Lopez. I am doing great! Even walked to the beach

on the day after surgery. I eagerly looking forward to my new life. There

were three other ladies that had surgery the same day (I am not sure if

they are on these boards or not) and my good wishes for speedy recovery

go out to Ariane, Lori, and Lauren. If anyone is hesitant about going to

Mexico for surgery, please don't be! Everything went very smoothly and there

was no language problem whatsoever! ( I am just glad it's over and I don't

have to be nervous anymore!)

Congratulations, Rhonda, on your good experience.

But let me add that there ARE reasons to be concerned about being banded far from home...see Lisa's post about HER experiences. And, not to concern you, but most of those who have had problems with the band did not experience those problems right away.

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but just to show both sides of the issue.

Yikes, I see Lopez and my tail sucks back in, but as long as you have an aftercare surgeon close to home you should be fine. My suggestion is to see your local surgeon right away so he can keep a close eye on your port area. Then get a fluroscopy as soon as you're able to, plus (for all Bandsters) to have annual endoscopies to watch for erosion. Congrads on your Band. I hope it's a boring adventure, meaning I hope you lose weight without any of the insanity I've endured!

Rhonda, several of us here have been banded by Dr. Lopez. Some have had good experiences and others like myself and Lisa have had not so good experiences. In the end it all worked out but just make sure you have a band surgeon that will do your aftercare that is close to home. Good luck and best wishes for an uneventful recovery period.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
