This isn't an answer for you but a question. Why did you go to Mexico to be banded. I'm in the early searching/questions process as to be banded or not. BMI 44

Hello!

I researched the lapband for over a year before making my decision to go to Mexico. The main reason I went was because the Doc's here in the States wouldn't touch me. [i weighed 214 am 5' 5.5" tall and my BMI was 35.] If I would gain 35lbs., then they'd consider me. Makes sense, huh?

Anyway, my blood pressure was through the roof, 169101 and some times higher. I'm now on meds. but hope to eventually get off them. Diabetes runs in my family and I didn't want to wait until I had more medical problems. My husband's insurance doesn't cover any kind of weight loss surgery, high BMI or not.

I happened across Dr. Ortiz's site and read everything I could about him and his practice. I ordered his book "Lap band for Life" and read it in 2 days. I called and talked to Carolyn, [she's considered HR, I think] and she answered all the questions I had. I had to wait until I got the money together, but they kept all my info on file. It was $8000 which covered the surgery, hospital stay, hotel stay and transpotation from San Diego airport and back again. If you'd like to look into it, you can go to obesitycontrolcenter.com

I have no regrets and would do it again! If you'd [or anyone] like to know anything else, feel free to ask. Best wishes, Darlene

Hey there...I realize this post was from awhile ago, and I'm not sure if you've found a fill doctor in PA yet or not, but I go to the Weight Loss Clinic in Harrisburg PA. Their website is www.wgtlossclinic.com. Dr. DiMarco did my surgery, and I get my fills by Dr. Weiger. Hope this info helps!

Spirit - I'm covered by insurance. I think fills are around $200...but don't quote me on that.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
