My insurance group uses Dr. Callery or Dr. Mueller. I attended both seminars, Dr.Callery's several years ago before Lap Band was available here or covered. He was great but preferred at that time to do everything open, not lap.I don't know if this is still true. Also I just couldn't commit to GB, I was too scared. Both of them have excellent records, stats, personalities, etc., but I like that Dr. Mueller has alot of laproscopic experience.

Dr. Callery did my surgery 2-15-08. He did it lap, I went home that evening, and did not have a catheter

I went to Dr. Mueller's seminar as well as Dr. Callery's. My PCP recommended Dr. Callery, so I went with him. I liked them both. Dr. Mueller's seminar was more formal than Dr. Callery's.

It seems to me the biggest difference is that Dr. Mueller is much more structured in his program. Dr. Callery does not have stringent diet rules except for the pre-op fasting. Mostly I based my post-op diet on how I was feeling with general guidelines.

I had my first fill yesterday, all went well.

Everyone, I came on to this thread for assistance.

I'm in a bad situation where I live and have to get out, quick. But not like today. I can go in 3-4 weeks and still have my family safe.

I need a place to live. I'm online looking at Craigslist but don't know what those city names are or where they are.

I need a good neighborhood that's decent in rent. I can afford rent -I'm not destitute. But I need resources on where to go.

Thanks for any input.

Grace I'm not sure what areas you are interested in . . . or that San Diego prices are "decent" at all anywhere - it is rather expensive to live here. Give me more info and I'll try to help . . . but I'm leaving town for a week on Sunday (5-11). Best of luck to you!

Chris

Hi, I'm in SD too! El Cajon actually.

I'm going to be banded in TJ by Dr. Ortiz on 6/24!

Is there a group that meets offline?

Hello there! Thinner Times offers off-line support, as well as an online forum:

Support Groups | Practice Information

I am not sure if their off-line support is just for patients of their practice, you might want to call to be sure before venturing to Poway.

Best wishes for your surgery!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
