Does everyone freak out like this?

Recommended Posts

I don't have a surgery date booked yet and I'm paralized in fear about having this surgery. I really don't know if it's to do with having the surgery or because it's out of country (Mexico, I'm from Canada) or because I am going to be alone (My husband needs to be with our kids and can't take time off work). I keep thinking, what if I die how do they ship bodies back? Does my husband need to claim my body....how will my kids make out...SEE, I'M LOSING MY MIND!!!!!!!!!!!

ahhhh Help me!!!!!!!!!!

I can't even begin to imagine the stress this is putting you through... I have a degree in Spanish but it would make me very scared to go international for the surgery... for that, you and others are very brave and determined. I commend you on that. I'm going to say it is very normal to be as scared as you are, especially since nobody will be going with you. Have you researched the facility? Have you spoken with the doctor who performs the surgeries there? If you do research on the site before you go, that willl help a lot... Is there nobody else who could go with you? Even if it's a more distant relative (cousin, etc) that could help put you at ease. I hope this helped some!

I have heard really good things from this site about people having their surgery in Mexico. Do as much research on the site and Dr as you can. Do you have a friend or other relative that could go with you? You will be OK. You are not going to die. I had these feelings also but then I couldn't get over just how easy it really was. Atleast for me. You will do fine and good luck!!

It's common to freak out. Just think about the positives right now. Losing weight, laproscopic procedure, etc. Or avoid thinking about the surgery all together (that's what I did). I didn't panic till I was in the hospital, then they gave me loopy drugs so I just rambled about cathetars.

Oftentimes the surgeons do groups of people, so there will likely be others there by themselves as well. You might ask the coordinator if there is anyone else going by themselves you could get in contact with prior to traveling.

I went to a different area in MX, but it was not an issue. All went well---I loved my experience. But was I scared? You betcha!!!

But to be honest---my fear about dying is one of the things that spurred me to have the band. I was afraid if I died, I would require a dozen pall barers to lift my casket. I knew there was no way 6 even 8 men could lift me and the weight of the casket---it was mortifying! I could imagine all the special arrangements--oversized coffin----everything!!!

As it is, I can now fit and they should be able to lift me should I go!

It will be ok, and yes, fears are totally normal!

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
