Hey everyone,

I am not sure if this is band-related, but I thought this would be a good place to ask.

I had the lap band put in on February 15th, 2008. I recovered for about 2 weeks (doing nothing but breathing pretty much) and felt fairly decent. All of a sudden, I didn't feel so good anymore. I went back to my surgeon with horrible pain in my lower right abdomen (around the appendix area) and he said it probably isn't surgery-related. I went to the E.R. on Wednesday and had a CAT scan and numerous other tests... I was discharged saying nothing is wrong with me but I keep having fevers of about 101 degrees and pain in my abdomen... sometimes on the left, mostly on the right side. Has anyone else had similar problems? It's so bad that I haven't been able to go to work or class hardly at all, and I have no appetite. Thanks.

Oh and I forgot to mention that it doesnt seem to be related to the port being sewn to my abdominal muscle... it doesn't seem to be in that area.

Was your white cell count raised at all in your blood work at the hospital? Did they rule out appendicitis? If so how did they rule it out? My DH, they kept saying his pain wasn't the appendix because it hurt all the way across his belly, notjust where it should. Well finally the 2nd CT scan picked up the inflamed appendix, and they removed it---and found why he hurt all the way across his belly--------his appendix was 9.5" long!!!!! They checked and it was not a record---but his surgeon said it was easily a record for him!!! And we never had any idea he was abnormally appendix endowed!!!

I would keep at it until something was resolved.

Good Luck!

Kat

I just read another post by you about not having any urge to urinate. This has me wondering if that is related to this?

I wish I had some sage advice, but I have no idea what's going on here.

Definitely don't let your doctor blow you off. Keep after them until they figure out what IS wrong.

Keep us posted!

Yikes... that's not very comforting!

They felt my lymph nodes and said that my white cells must be up because they are swollen... they checked to see if i was pregnant(no matter how many times i said i wasnt), did a pelvic exam (ow), took 2 blood samples, swabbed me for strep, did a CAT scan and took xrays and said i was normal all the way around.. *shrugs* they do miss things... i just kind of hate to go back to the ER and have them keep sticking me and finding nothing, yknow?

I'm not sure about the fever but I have had very similar pains in the past and discovered it was really bad gas. Someone else in my support group also had the same thing and it was gas pains. Try using a heating pad for a while and see if that helps. If it doesn't improve and you're still having fevers, I would definitely go back to the Doctor ASAP. I hope you feel better soon!

I went to the Dr yesterday. If the hospital even tested my urine specimen, I'd be surprised. She said I have a UTI and prescribed antibiotics. I am now amazed at how much they can tell about you from your pee! She could tell I hadn't been eating hardly anything lately and will be able to tell me by Friday which virus this is so they can make sure I have the best antibiotic to kill it. I tell ya, technology is amazing. :huh2:

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
