help reading my sleep study report?

Recommended Posts

Pretty much it says you dont have sleep apnea or restless leg syndrome. Unless they managed to mess up and put that you didn't have any events. which is very unlikely.

Like my study says

Respiratory data; The average rate is 15 per hour (normal is less than 5). Supine rate is 86.5 per hour with a non-supine rate of 5.5 per hour. The non-REM rate was 5.0 per hour and the REM rate was 66.0 per hour.

But since the rest is not filled out there may be something wrong with the report. All you can do is call your doctor and ask.

My Doctor does sleep studies in 2 parts.. You come in one night just for the study.. then you come back another night and they put the machine on you. So call your doctor and confirm with him that these results are right. It seems to me that Atleast if anything you would have had atleast 1 leg event. But that is from my experience with transcribing sleep study reports

I had my sleep study on Feb 28 and they never came in after I went to sleep to put me on the CPAP machine. When the nurse from my ENT's office called she told me that the results showed that "on average" I stopped breathing 33 times per hour!! I have to go back this Thursday and be hooked up to the CPAP machine for a second sleep study. I have to admit that I was SHOCKED as I did not think I had sleep apnea. I have never woke up gasping for air, I don't sleep with my head on more than one pillow. I am always tired but I always just assumed it was because I have 4 children and work full time. I am also a "light" sleeper which apparently is also a sign of sleep apnea, I didn't know that. My sister is planning to be banded as well and she had her sleep study last night. The results of her study were not significant enough for insurance to cover the cost of a CPAP machine-WTF does that mean!?!?!? That is what the sleep tech told her, I told her to wait until she hears from the ENT or her nurse.

haha that was me. i doubted i had sleep apnea, but when they came in and talked to me I averaged 66 times an hour and as many as 87. i couldn't believe it. I knew mine would be a 2 night stay if i had apnea, just because it is easier on them that way. If you don't fall into a deep enough sleep fast enough the first night then they can't put the machine on you. Your next study they will start you on the machine from the moment you get into bed.

As for your sister. anything averaging under 5 events an hour is considered normal. Most doctors don't treat it if it is under 12 events an hour unless they have severe apnea while in REM sleep. Which REM is typically where people will have the most events because the throat is the most relaxed and is most likely to "collapse", since it is the deepest sleep. She will have to wait to hear the results from her doctor, most sleep techs know what is significant enough to put one on the CPAP, but insurance can be different about what they will insure. My plan pretty much just says "if the doctor thinks it should be treated, then we will pay for it" about sleep apnea.

anyway.. lol now that i have written you an essay i guess I should quit, but good luck with your CPAP Tritation!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
