Why all the protein?

I know that is a silly question but I'm not yet banded. But what's with all the Protein Drinks. Is it because of no food.< /p>

Protein builds muscle and you need it to survive since you won't be eating much of anything.

There are phases of pre-op and post op eating that require liquids only and Protein can also help you feel satisifed longer. With fewer calories, it helps our muscle and prevents Hair loss etc.

I'm wondering the same exact thing!

Why?

I was banded and have completed my journey...am on maintenance. Never seen the likes of such stuff....protein drinks.

But hey, if your doc says you need it.... drink it!

What my surgeon tells me: He uses the high protein/low carb/fat free diet to shrink the liver. Some people have a "fatty liver". Since they put one of the trocars (to pass the camera and instrumentation) just below the liver, they want the liver as small as possible to prevent any trauma to it.

Even in maintenance it is sometimes hard to get 50-60 grams of Protein. I have a Protein Shake every morning just to be sure I get the amount I need.
