Do protein drinks make you...

Recommended Posts

Protein diets generally constipate people, so maybe there was something else in it that either didn't agree with you or did you eat something that day that just didn't agree with you?

Well, I've got to say that I have a Protein shake every day (and if lacking, twice a day) and I would hardly say I have that problem!! Au contraire!!

Now I use the powdered (belgian chocolate) whey Protein isolate (not the canned garbage) and I mix it with Water.

No clue but all I can say is that I've never found it to be the case with me...:)

Do remember the phrase "Liquids in , liquids out" if you are only doing liquids. I have a Protein Shake 3-4 times a week, I have the opposite problem now. Before banding I used to go 3-4 times a day, now once every couple days usually.

:embaressed_smile:I am wondering if I should call the er number because I have the runs really bad. I drank a protien shake trying to get in some protien on day4 post -op. I am not sure if I should drink those shakes again. I cannot stop going to the bathroom. Please forgive the graphics but I need some suggestions. What other ways can I get protien in during this first two weeks?

I am pretty sure they call it Ensure because it will ensure a BM. I love the taste of the strawberry and the 13 g of Protein, but 30 minutes after I start one I am guaranteed a healthy bathroom visit. It is not exactly diahrea (sp?) for me, so I drink one about every other day.

It must just have different effects on everybody. The clean me out, but my husband hasnt noticed a difference. We are trying nectar samples from Vitalady.com and so far they have been very good, except the fuzzy navel.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
