I may not have gotten to the point yet, but I've never PB'd. I've gotten a little stuck only 3 times (only lasted a couple minutes).

I'm currently filled 5cc and I've had 2 fills.

I had my first fill a couple of weeks ago. Is there an awkward stage between food either going straight through or getting stuck? If I am in a hurry, or eat something dry, it gets stuck going down, but it seems nothing stays in the pouch. Will more fills help me get past this stage? It seems like the opening is just big enough to either cause me grief or do nothing. Thoughts/knowledge?

THIS IS MY EXPERIENCE EXACTLY!! Sorry for the caps, Im just getting frustrated. I just emailed my surgeon's office to go in for another fill. I would also like some advice if anyone has had this experience. Will this end when you get to the right fill level?

There is indeed an awkward stage along the way and I was there myself for a time. If you eat too fast or if something is too dry (like chicken for me) it will be stuck but everything else passed entirely too quickly.

This is really when you learn the bandster rules of "chew to goo." This is the point at which you begin facing consequences for choices that are difficult for your band to tolerate and is a mid-step in the process. To be honest, I think this stage is helpful because it helps you to learn to avoid painful or unpleasant mistakes before you reach your sweet spot.

After this stage, another fill got me to the point where I was at my sweet spot. I had to chew more that I ever thought before and be really carefull with food choices. I also learned at this stage that chicken is better marinated or in a low-calorie sauce of some sort. However, my pouch would empty very slowly and I was satisfied for many hours. It was this stage where I lost most of my weight to get me to a normal BMI.

Well I vomit a lot don't like it @ all it drive me up the wall. my weight going up not down. Don't understand it if I'm not holding anything down why I'm not losng?? Its like my body is giving up are I have gave up!!

Latrice, Have you talked with your surgeon about this?

Throwing up all the time can cause you many problems with the band and with other things as well.

mandy: You are either too tight, or making a basic 'error of eating'...

I had to modify my eating behavior at each level of fill....and every .1cc can be WAY more than you think when you near 'the SWEET spot'....

If you continue PB after a few weeks of modified eating behavior, you may want to have just a LITTLE unfill....

I put up with 'too tight' for 5 months....it was miserable and I didn't lose anything during that stage.

PB isn't a band term. Who made this up?

Since my last fill, I have been vomiting almost daily. I finally have the restriction others have been talking about for months. I'm just wondering how often you all vomit. Is there a learning curve or will I be doing this forever?

:) Okay I am confused as to some terminology...

1. What is the "sweet spot" and how will I know when I get there?

2. How can you vomit so much and still not lose weight?

3. What is "pb"? Is it a good thing or a bad thing?

4. My Dr. said if I vomit even one time I am to call his office right away or go to the emergency room, don't all Dr want this? I was told my goal was to never vomit again..EVER.

Can anyone help unconfuse me???? Thanks. :smile:

I PB several times a week but my fault. I know that I shouldn't but sometimes I just want that one more bite & knowing I shouldn't cuz it's coming up. But I do it all the time I just can't or haven't taught myself to just say NO

Hi, Everyone is different and every doctor has different instructions.

1) The Sweet spot is when you are losing weight, you feel some restriction and do not vomit. It is elusive. as weight loss changes the restriction.

2) PB is productive belching and a good thing. It means something is stuck and your body is trying to dislodge it. That alone is fine. The Sliming ( Excess salivation ) to help dislodge it ,and vomitting, is not fun; but it happens. i have had it occur as a single episode and am fine. I have had a sinus problem and could not stop vomitting (nothing was stuck). In which case I called my surgeon.

3) one will vomit because a food item is stuck but only the stuck item(s) will come up. There are lots of other high calorie things that will not make you vomit. You will not lose weight by sporadic vomitting. You only vomit the item that is stuck, NOT the entire contents of your stomach, ( It is not the gut wrenching flu vomiitting we have all experienced.)

4) do follow your Doctor's instructions. Sometimes, when a food is stuck and vomitting won't relieve the discomfort; the band must be deflated. I had sinus drainage that filled my stomach to the point I could not swallow. Any vomitting that does not stop, yes contact your doctor. (You will soon learn the difference)

About how long does it take for people to get unstuck when they vomit?

I've only just started getting stuck recently (just had my 3rd fill, and still getting used to the new restriction), and it seems to take a couple of hours before I'm not feeling nauseated any more. Is this normal?

I have only vomited once and havent pb'd at all. I ate 2 greenbeans too quickly and they had to come right back up. It wasnt a full on vomit, but it was bad enough I learned my lesson. Made a true believer out of me.

I do not feel full but depending on what i eat i do regurgitate so i do not think i need a fill. Any help on why I do not feel full? Cannot seem to lose any weight at all

Hi Carolswo, I know the feeling you are having. If you are not feeling full but sometimes you get that "stuck" feeling and PB it could be what your eating, the types of foods or the size of the bite. Some foods are hard to pass through the band, chicken and bread for me. Take a look at WHAT your eating, and how is prepared and the size of the bite can be an issue to. I am in the same boat right now with not feeling full but sometimes get that feeling that something isnt going down smoothly and it usually food choice.

I do not feel full but depending on what i eat i do regurgitate so i do not think i need a fill. Any help on why I do not feel full? Cannot seem to lose any weight at all

I will have 2 or 3 good days and then a couple of bad days where nothing seems to want to go down. Finally have an appointment to have .5 cc removed. I feel I could eat a little healthier. Because it's hard to get solid Protein down other than chili and Beans, I will eat more ice cream than I should, especially once I've thrown up. I at least buy it in the little cups to control portion amounts. there seems to be no rhyme or reason why something I ate today, I can't eat tomorrow.

But I'm getting close to goal weight (20-25 lbs) and would be removing some fill then anyway. I've tried for four months to make it work, thinking I was doing something wrong, which some of it was me (drinking fluids too close to eating), but when pudding won't even go down...

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
