wanttobe110 2 Posted March 13, 2005 Hello, I have been banded three weeks and I have lost nothing. I am discouraged that I have gone through all this for nothing.
Iluvharleys 15 Posted March 13, 2005 Kirsten, please don't feel bad, this is a time for healing. You will lose weight, don't worry. Just follow your doctors orders and when you get your first fill, things will turn around for you. Hang in there!
Alexandra 55 Posted March 13, 2005 Hi Kirsten, While it's unusual not to lose some weight immediately after banding, it's not at all a measure of eventual banding success. Are you still on a liquid diet? Can you tell us what you're eating/drinking and how many calories you're taking in? How far are you from starting solids? Do you have any sense of restriction at all? If you've been banded three weeks it may be only three more weeks till your first fill. And that's when your real banding journey will begin. Don't lose heart--you're barely out of the gate and this is a long-distance haul.
Tarafeena 1 Posted March 14, 2005 Don't feel down, from what I have read any weight loss before your first fill is just a plus.. Stick to your diet and only weigh yourself once a week and see if that helps.. Good luck to you.. P.S. I noticed that we were banded on the same day...80)
GeezerSue 7 Posted March 14, 2005 Did your physician not give you the information that until you have a fill you may not lose any weight? This would be important information... Anyway, read around here...especially the basics, and you may learn about all of the details that will save you from becoming concerned unnecessarily. wanttobe110 2 Posted March 14, 2005 Hi, Thanks everyone for the support. I get my first fill one week from today. My doctor did say that I might not loose weight the first month, but I see that a lot of people have lost during the first month. I am always hungry, but she said that I would be since the band is empty. I guess I'll just wait till next week.
the best me 6 Posted March 14, 2005 You will get there! I worry about the same thing happening to me. Our start weights are about the same, 220 for me, although on a good day I could be as low as 218. But my goal weight is much higher at 140. I am 5"5", how tall are you? It seems the more you have to lose, the quicker it tends to fall off...I think of the folks here who started around 300lbs and dropped 50lbs or so pretty quickly...but in reality, everyone is different! Also, are you eating regular foods now, or mushies still? I went to FitDay.com (?) and put in a regular day's worth of eating and was amazed at the calorie intake I had...hmmm, no wonder I'm so fat! But I get that desperate feeling when I'm not full. That's what the Band will help with. You'll do better after your fill. Keep us posted!
wanttobe110 2 Posted March 14, 2005 Hi Kathy, I see you are going to be banded soon. Yeah! I am eating a lot of mushies and some regular food- Pasta, for example. I am going to try that fitday.com- I went there briefly and it looks cool. I am only 4'9" so 110 is realistic for me. That would probably make me a size 7/8. I've been that weight before. I struggled with weight all my life but I was only 10-20 pounds overweight until I got married in 1992 and lived in the most unfriendly place. I make friends easily, but the people there were just so cold. So food became my friend. Hubby worked nights so my food loved me and was always there for me and never let me down. It became my life. Then we moved from there (YEAH), but I had three children right away and my father died so here I am at 100+ pounds overweight. But the band will change that! Tarafeena 1 Posted March 14, 2005 Does Pasta bother you?? I tried it this weekend and had a weird pressure feeling? Let us know how you do after your fill!!
the best me 6 Posted March 14, 2005 Four Feet Nine Inches!!!! Forgive me while I freak out for a minute...(jaw on floor) Girl, you are itty bitty! But that explains 110lbs. I'd be anorexic looking at 110, and I'm not even that tall. Okay, you are officially allowed to shoot for 110lbs. (Aren't you relieved? LOL) You will like FitDay.com It's not something I would go to everyday and faithfully enter every morsel...just me, though, but it was very helpful to get a grip on the amount of fats, sugars, carbs and non-real foods that were a part of my diet. Very helpful. Keep us filled in on how you are doing...I'll bet your fill really helps you, and your Dr is the Ren that co-wrote the Lap Band book, right? Ya, you'll be fine. La_madam 20 Posted March 14, 2005 Do not get discouraged, the first 6 weeks is for healing and any weight loss during this time is a bonus, did your Dr. not tell you that? Once you start getting your fills the weight loss will happen, the band is designed to be filled to work its best. Hang in there
wanttobe110 2 Posted March 17, 2005 Hello ladies, Let's see--Pasta doesn't bother me. It's one of the things I can eat now. How did you lose 28 pounds?? See- everyone else is losing weight during this time. I know- I have to wait for my fill, but I haven't been known to be a patient person! I wish I could find that book by Dr. Ren. I am trying to get all the info I can to make the first year as successful as I can.
the best me 6 Posted March 17, 2005 You can do this...increase your Water intake, too, if you haven't already. Maybe cut the pastas and switch to soft Proteins, cottage cheese, yogurt, etc. This is just basic diet stuff, not band advice...I can't go there yet...but you will look at the scale one day and, BOOM, you will be headed down... Guest Jazell76 Posted March 22, 2005 I am the same. I have lost minimal weight since being banded on 3 march 2005. I am getting my first fill next week. And really hoping that it will kick my weight loss off to a good start.
