freaking about sleep apnea and my 3-14 surgery

Recommended Posts

So long as your Dr knows your sleep study well (which I'm sure he does) - your Drug Dr will monitor you closely. My husband has apnea bad (machine & all) and he was all OK during his surgery.....

I had and do have a fear of "going under" - night night meds , not surgery....I told my Drug Dr he better wake me up after my lapband, and DH better 2 (he was schedule an hr after me)....

You should be fine - maybe pre surgery jitters..??...Good luck for a safe "trip"..

Maybe just jitters. Wish I had not read the article. My surgery center definitely knows about the sleep apnea because they sent me for the sleep study. I assume they faxed it over to my surgeon. Believe me, I won't go into surgery until I ask everyone if they know about it. I think I am having pretty normal fears here at the end, it just caught me off guard a little.

I have severe sleep apnea, and I was in a car wreck in 2001 and had to go into emergency operation(at the time didn't know I had the sleep apnea), but didn't come out of my anestesia, ended up on a ventilator...long story short I was scared to death to go back under also, but what I did was I took my sleep test results to my doctor and he required me to stay overnite for observation, and I also showed my sleep test results to the anestesiologist(spelled wrong)...and everything went fine....hope this helps and good luck....i was banded on 2/5/08, and everything is going great....

I just read something online about sleep apnea and anethesia and I am freaking out. I am very worried now about post-op. Anybody had issues because of it?

I was just banded 12 days ago. I had the sleep apnea study done and was found to have severe sleep apnea last November. I was fit with a C-Pap and have been using it since. They will use your C-Pap in the recovery room to bring you around so I wouldn't worry to much, OK?! Vicki

I have sleep apnea. The surgery dept had me bring my cpap with me. I used it post op. I did have a little trouble with my oxygen saturation dropping on room air, but as long as I kept my cpap on I was fine. After a few hours I was fine. I guess I just took a little longer to wake up well. I went home the same day and have been waking up every day since. :)

I have sleep apnea and they told me to bring my CPAP with me the day of surgery. I think they are quite used to dealing with this issue, since many overweight people have it.

Also make sure they don't overmedicate you AFTER the surgery. Studies have shown that sleep apena and pain drugs don't mix. Keep your CPAP machine ON if you do have one.

Hi

I feel the same as lonestar5212. I dont think I have sleep apnea, but who knows untill you have a sleep study done. I am going to Colorado in three weeks and being from Canada I would not likely get a study done in time . It would be a free test, but you do have a bit of a wait to get in. What l wat to know is what happens if you go in uknowingly? how risky is it? I snore very little and do not have uneven breathing acording to my husband. This does leave me feeling uneasy. What are your thoughts?

thanks Lizzieann

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
