Holy Cow...Beautiful Rejection

Recommended Posts

Guess what friends! I went to the Allergan (maker of my band) website to look at their updates and changes. They have a nice new commercial that will start playing later this month. Anyway, they now have a My Story feature, where you can log in, track your progress and share how it's gone for you. So, of course I'm game for that....I click on the registration process. As directed, I first enter my birthday, current height and weight and click enter. I get a pop-up reply...."We are sorry but based on your information you are not a candidate for the Lap Band surgery procedure at this time."

WHAT? Seriously! I realized I have lost enough weight and my BMI is now low enough that I wouldn't even qualify if I tried today. I'm going back later to put in my pre-band weight so I can play too (I'm sure that my old BMI won't cause any problems - in fact, I'll probably get a pop-up that says, "wow girl - you better go find a surgeon today, cause that's not pretty")

Now THAT made my day.

LOL Becca that's great!!!! I entered my numbers today for my new weight (237!) and according to that weight my BMI is at 36! I started at 40. So according to my new BMI, I would now have to have some pretty serious comorbidities to qualify for surgery. How neat is that?

(Going to the Allergan site to see if I can get rejected too! LOLOLOLOL)

Congratulations! Isn't it a great feeling? I also got oddly excited when my BMI recently dropped under 35 (you are so close Karen! Just a few more pounds - and at the rate you're going that'll be next week!!!) and I found myself classified as Obese....not "super obese", not "morbidly obese", just plain old obese.

In the next few months, I might just end up being "overweight". Never thought I'd be so happy just to be trying for overweight...

Isn't that the weirdest thing? Hooray I'm overweight! LOL Just makes me giggle!

You have to go read my confession before you make any predictions about my BMI though! :)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
