As long as it's not bubbly, not carbonated. You can even add Crystal lite if you want to. I use a dash of lemon and a pinch of swtnlow. Good luck on your new journey!

Isn't sparkling Water carbonated? I thought it was. If so, the answer to your question is absolutely no! It may cause your now little stomach to basically feel like it will blow up. SOes anyone know when we can start drinking carbonated drinks agian? I miss my diet coke.

My understanding on Carbonated drinks is it is a no no forever. I was told under no circumstances should I drink cokes or other carbonated beverages.< /p>

I've been told coffee is okay but Decaf is better cause some thing about caffeine makes your stomach rumble and that could be thought to be hunger when it is not. Most people I talk to say no problems at all with it.

I've tried carbonated beverages and just find them to be terribly uncomfortable. So between that and the possibility of the bubbles stretching my pouch I find reason enough to avoid them completely.

Thank goodness I suffer no ill effects from coffee, though! I'd never be able to face the day, half the time. :rolleyes :)

I didn't try a soda until more than 3 months out. Sometimes I'll sip on one, but I get uncomfortable if I go too fast. I definately wouldn't recommend it for right after surgery. coffee rules seem to depend on the doctor. My doctor had no issues with me having coffee, but some say no forever.

Good luck!

I was told that coffee is ok with equal or sweet and low I found out that Splenda spikes your blood sugar . I was allowed to have coffee with a touch of skim milk in it during my liquid shake phase. Carbonated beverages are a no-no But you can make it flat then drink it . I have heard other do that in my support group.

Corgi,

I saw costco had Sparkling Ice Water on sale and purchased a case of it.

Then Duh I realized Sparkling means carbonated.

I drank them slow and shook a lot of the carnbination out of them. I didn't have trouble but I won't get them again because to many drinks out there that I can use without having to prepare them to get rid of carbonation.

Try Propel...Costco also sell them and I like them the best

I drink sparkling Water all day every day. I just pour it, let it sit, stir a little to get rid of some bubbles, and sip slowly.

I'm with Sue - sometimes I just get a craving for a Sprite or a Coke or something, so if it's in a can I'll pour it over a glass of ice and let it sit for a while or give it a stir to get rid of the carbonation before I drink it. I don't know why, but for some reason, pouring soda over ice really seems to cut down on the bubblies!

Have your hubby return the sparkling Water [my guess is that he purchased the Sparkling Rain or the something Ice]. You shouldn't have carbonated beverages and this stuff doesn't taste that great. I have had samples while at costco.

I can't drink carbonated drinks, and that's before any surgery. If you want something to drink bedsides plain Water, I would recommend Fruit2O [by VeryFine] and Propel Fitness water. Both are flavored waters with not carbonation. Fruit2O has 0 calories while Propel has 10 calories per 8 oz serving [20 calories in a 16.9 oz bottle]. Both are least expesive at costco / Sam's, but you can get them Wal-Mart and most grocery stores too. Nestle came out with a flavored water about a month ago, I do not recall the name, but it had a nasty after-taste, so I would not recommend it. Hope this helps.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
