Traveling and eating out

Recommended Posts

Well gang, I just took my first trip. A 4 day weekend with hub. Eating was a real problem. I don't want all of the extra food on my plate. What have any of you found to make it easier?

I lost 4 lbs on the trip and it wasn't a "good" loss

Why was eating a problem - and what was not a good loss - did ou have tummy problems?? I don't understand - or where there foods you just couldn't eat..

When you get your plate ask for a box right away and box up what you can't eat - or depending on where you are eating you can maybe order a child's plate -Some people have cards that say they have had bariatric surgery and to please allow them to order child's plate (see your doc for this card)

My problem when going out to eat is that my old brain still works when I am hungry - I order a taco & enchillda with Beans - well all i can eat is 3/4 of my taco and some Beans - I just bring the left overs home for later...

I don't eat beef and I still have trouble with Pasta and rice. I don't eat fried aand high fat. That made the choices at some restruants almost nothing. I try to stick to skinless chicken and fish, broiled or baked. I also can't eat bread. Sticking with food I cook has really help me loss weight steady. Bad 4 lbs is due to lack of food and frustrating search.

I guess that's why I say I eat healthy 98% of the time - cuz i eat at home and allow myself 2% of regular food that you get when you eat out ... I eat fish at home baked so when I go out I want steak or mex or chineese - those 2% haven't screwed up my weight lost at all - in the last 8 months I have lost every week but one and stayed even that week.

But again I haven't eaten out for 4 days in a row - but I did when I was on WW before - just found things in plan - salad with dressing on the side - El Pollo Loco chicken places and heck sometime you just have to enjoy...

I have tried it too With a good sause I like it. Olive Garden serves it now. I think my biggest problem with traveling is I hadn't tried out any resturants before the trip.

I never realize how steep the learning curve is for this new eating style.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
