A bipap machine is for sleep apnea. It lets the air flow at two levels, one pressure level for the inhale and one pressure for the exhale. A Cpap machine does not vary the air pressure.

I also have fibromyalgia and have for about 18 years, I have never found a med that has worked to control the pain, I basically suck it up, which doesn;t always work, I am surprised I have been married as long as I have because I am not the nicest person to be around most days..about 1 week into my Liquid Protein diet, I had a turn around pain wise, I think I detoxed my body, because I had very minimal pain..I have lost 20+ lbs since 2-13-08 and I am actually feeling more energy and have been more happy, much to my husbands amazement, he commented how much better my attitude has been, Don't get me wrong I still have my pains, but they are getting better, maybe soon I will be able to exercise without throwing my body into a tailspin for days on end...

Good luck everyone..

Tammy

Lyrica is fairly new in the fibro world. Ask your dr. about it next time you go in. You may find it the lifesaver I have. I have RA and my dr. pushed Percoset, a habit forming narcotic, over Lyrica. I switched drs. and the lyrica, while it does take some getting used to by just forging through the initial weirdness, has saved my life, or my husband's, or my children's. I no longer have pain daily when the RA and the fibro are under control.

It's funny you should say that about the detox. When I had my colonoscopy I felt the same. It was also like that with my gallbladder and being banded. Maybe the body is busy processing real pain instead of this pretend stuff it is determined to recognize. My doctor says many of her patience are treated in pain centers as well. Eighteen years is a very long time.

Jam265, you are absolutely right about working through Lyrica's weirdness. I have never had trouble with falling asleep while driving. Three days into taking Lyrica I fell asleep and woke up driving on the wrong side of the road. Thankfully no other cars. I was also dizzy in the beginning but most of that has passed. For me the good outweighed the bad.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
