how do i break thru the 'IM DONE'' mentality?

After many years of experience, of loosing my 30+ pounds and re-gainning it back, how do i break thru that mentality that i have ingrated into my brain? I am finding it so discouraging to get on the scale and seeing only 1/2 pound or even less gone, it feels just like "old times" ....this must be a point of discouragement for a lot of banders, i have been here so many times, i can't count them!

have any of you reached this plateau, and have found it to be the most difficult to break thru, because of past experience. The band is working for me, but my brain is frazzled!!!!!

You sound so much like me. I go through long plateaus all the time. The only difference is that now I don't sabotage myself and eat a bunch of junk because the scale isn't moving.

I would tell you to stay off the scale, but I am addicted to the scale myself. I weigh when I get up and before I go to bed.

Are you exercising? Exercise makes all the difference in the world.

I really believe that it's because our metabolism has slowed down so much now that we are in our 50's . I was convinced that I would be a band failure. I lost the majority of my weight in the first 4 weeks of being on the liquid diet post op. Now I just tell myself that the band will always be there, and I can keep losing no matter how long it takes.

I haven't lost any significant amount of weight since October!! When I went to the doctor last time for a fill, I had lost only 5# in 5 months! My doctor was absollutely fine with it! He was like, "well you're not gaining!....so what if it takes you 3 years to lose the rest?!" He was just happy as he could be! So I've decided I like his attitude!...and I've relaxed quite a bit over the whole situation.

I feel ya, sister! Plateaus can be very discouraging...but look on the bright side!

I wish I had words of wisdom, but only of understanding.

I go along nicely coping, and then I get a stressful week/day/life, you know I'm sure! Or just cravings, or something triggers "something" and I think, "oh, NO, I'm still the same " :angry:

But these days, I try and say, but, the band is saving you :thumbup:

I had some chocolates in the cupboard since before Christmas, and there was five in a little box. and Yep, they disappeared in two days at the end of an incredibly stressful week where I just wanted to rock and cry. It wasn't anything terrible, just a "give me a bunch of hugs" week. So, I ate 3 chocs the first night, and then the other two the next day. I feel sooooo bad.

And then I thought, but, that's all I did. I didn't go to the shop and get a block, and another, or a packet of Cookies or binge and binge. So from that perspective, I guess I did medicate with food, but it was a controlled five chocolates, and they are gone, and I don't want anymore.

My band saved me I believe....even if I have an unhealthy meal, I don't feel so down on myself, which used to lead to a spiral of bingeing.

Sorry, rambling.....I just feel that the band has given me time, and I don't feel so desperate, as I am more in control.

I don't know how kgs work compared to lbs. It looks like you have lost half the weight that you want to though.

I couldn't count the time I have just felt fried and turned to chocolate.

When I was visiting my dad and trying to get him into an assisted living

home, my cousin gave me a little box of chocolates to give to him for Valentines day. Well I know that he has no appetite even for chocolate

because there were candy bars all over his house. I ate his box of

candy from my cousin on the way home and he never even saw them.

I was worn out and stressed to the max because he is 89 and very grumpy and doesn't want to move into assisted living and doesn't want to live alone either. I didn't even care that I ate his candy.

I am back on track now though, and this week I lost 3 lbs after not losing anything since Dec. My band is working, and I am not going to stress out over falling off the wagon so to speak. As long as I follow the band rules the majority of the time, I am happy.

So you ARE in control. We all have those times when we just don't give a heck for a day or so.

I understand what you mean, and thank you for sharing this with me. It makes it seem easier when you know there are others just struggling along too.

I realised it was recently my 4 months bandiversary - and until I realised it was only 1 kg per week, I thought, oh, I'm doing okay, I'm half way. Somehow, that lessened my success :)

But I think, even when feeling down, I feel the band is there for always, so that I won't just go back up again. :eek:

Half way there at 4 months is fabulous. I bet at 4 months I had only lost 25 lbs. and 22 of it was the first 4 weeks from the post op diet.
