Hi, I am new to the whole forum thing. I am really really shy. But I think here goes.......................My concern is getting turned down. I am going through BCBS of TN and my BMI is 34. I start weight was 241. I am going on the 4th month of seeing my primary doctor for the 6 month diet plan. I am at 234 as of now, but think if I loose weight, insurance will turn me down. I really want to do everything right. So any suggestions would be appreciated. Did anyone out there go to the support group meetings or recommend it?

It's nice to see someone else from TN here! Do you have other co-morbities to go along with the weight? My surgery is scheduled for March 17 with Dr. Charles Morton at Baptist Hospital. Good luck on your journey.

Call your insurance company and ask for a written list of their requirements to cover weight loss surgery. Many carriers will only pay for a BMI of 40 with no other medical problems or a BMI of 35 with one or more other medical problems (called co-morbidities).

I also have an underactive thyroid. And good to hear from another Tennessean. I am going to have mine done in Murfreesboro, that is, if all goes well. I really want this so bad, but hate to get my hopes up to much.

And great idea Elizabeth. And I was thinking about touching base with the clinic on Monday. I haven't heard anything since seeing the surgeon in early December.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
