Have you told your doc about this - do you take any acid reflux meds???

I don't have acid reflux but have read where some do - I suggest talking to your doctor...

If you can eat during the day but get tighter at night, that is your pattern. In order for that to change, you might have to accept a small unfill and be careful of overeating during the day.

Even a very small unfill can make a difference. Reflux is not fun, it hurts and if the band is tight (even if it's just at night) that is not a good thing for the band or your esphogus.

Are you eating softer foods during the day and that's why food goes down earlier in the day? Are you eating solid Protein at night?

The only other possibility I can think of, besides needing a small unfill, is if you have a new hiatal hernia. Whatever the cause, any reflux is a reason to go see your band surgeon ASAP. Reflux in banded people is usually a sign that something is wrong, and most often it's too much fill, even though you have times when you don't feel restricted. Your band surgeon can sort out the reason for your reflux, but don't delay in seeing him/her.

good luck!

You are too tight. I had that same problem. I got a slight unfill and it stopped the problem I agree with everyone else.

You need to call your doctor and tell him about this. This is not normal. Like the others said, even the smallest amount taken out can make a huge difference.

If this started out of no where, you definitely need to get unfilled and have everything checked out. It doesn't happen for no reason.

You could very likely be too tight and need a slight unfill. I have reflux periodically and I know it is because I am borderline too tight. Regardless of your fill you will always have a variable restriction through the day. I went for three days barely being able to keep anything down and then I had one evening where I had no problem at all whatsoever. I think it is the nature of the beast. If you are too uncomfortable tho, I would suggest maybe a slight unfill.

I don't know about a complete unfill because I am not a dr. but you definitely need to tell you dr. I agree that this doesn't happen for no reason.

Don't risk complications. Make an appointment to see your doctor.

I have the same problem with fluid coming out of my nose and mouth at night. It's weird cause I will be in a deep sleep and I will wake up choking on all this fluid coming out. It happens probably 2 to 3 times a week . I don't know what causes it and why. But I choke and cough every time it happens. Not alot of fun, is it.

If it's just Water -- hmm. But if what you're choking on is acidy - burns your throat, leaves you with a taste of vomit in your mouth, etc. then you're not choking on water. Do you, in either your band or your stomach, feel particulary full/stuffed before you lay down when this happens? Or do you feel empty/hungry?

I did that when I was too tight. I had a very slight unfill and it's never happened since. I agree. It was horrible.

You might want to start a separate thread for subsequent questions -- you'll get more attention that way.

Acid reflux is usually described as something like, "Woke up and caught myself throwing up."

Being stuck is usually associated with pressure, or pain (referred and local), and sometimes the sensation of needing to burp but not being able to. Most people feel it slightly different from everyone else, though.

You eat between your ribs? :cursing:

I was just hoping to find someone else that has gone through this. It is just weird and scary to wake up choking on Water and saliva. It's not vomit at all. I cough alot, also when this happens. Still love my band tho. Just wanting to understand why this happens.

Almost every time I read about reflux/ regurgitation the person eventually discovers the band is too tight and they need a SLIGHT unfill.

If you get a slight unfill, it will stop happening. It's dangerous to be too tight. This is your band's way of telling you there is a problem. Call your

doctor!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
