1st fill and 2 day liquid diet

Recommended Posts

I was allowed to have any liquids after my fill. I didn't do very chunky Soups but I did have some noodles in it.

You just have to be on a full liquids diet. And after that mushies..and work your way back to solids....everytime you get a fill it's like you just had surgery again...what was ok with the band prior to the last fill might not agree with it this time.

My Dr.s has me on Clear Liquids for 3 days (clear + SlimFast) you may want to call your Dr. Mine would FREAK OUT if I had full liquids right after.

Every doctor has different after fill requirements. I am supposed to do clear liquids for 3 days. I haven't made it yet so I do clear liquids for one day, full liquids the second and on the third I do all soft foods like cottage cheese and yogurt. I have a lot of trouble with swelling after a fill so I am very careful when I reintroduce foods.

I've had 14 fills in a litle over a year and always get the same words as I leave the office "liquids the rest of today, mushies tomorrow and solids the day after". I usually stop by Einsteins for Soup of some kind on the way back to work, but skip the crackers :blushing: My clinic is famous for small fills though, so maybe that's why the shorter liquid period after a fill.

I think all doctors differ on their post-fill requirements. Mine says clear liquids for the first 24 hours, then full liquids, then soft food for the following 5 days, then eat as tolerated. This past fill, my 4th, has been the best fill yet. Before, the first 2 days after a fill I'd be so hungry on just the liquids but this time I've been somewhat satisfied, FINALLY! I'm on my last day of 'soft' foods.

I had my first fill on Thursday 10-29-09.. I was told to do clear liquids for 48 hours then full liquids the rest of the week.. Am I the only one that was put on liquids for a full freaking week after my first fill.. ?? Oh and I still really don't feel much different and they put 5cc in . Is this normal??

The only time I was on "clear" liquids was the day of surgery. My surgeon uses the term "thin" liquids - anything that can fit through a straw - and that's what I had post op, and for 2 days everytime I have a fill. I must admit, I sometimes add mushies a little sooner than I should, but I go slowly and TRY to pay attention to my body's reaction. My problem is I really like mushies, and don't eat enough solids. A work in progress....

I got my first fill last week. I was on clear liquids for 3 days, full liquids for 3 days, mushies for 3 days, soft foods for 3 days and then on to regular foods.

Surgeons sure are different. I feel sorry for those who have to do the liquids all over again with each fill. Ive had 3 fills, 6.5 cc in a 14 cc band, still not feeling restriction. My docs say mushy foods for 24 hours then back to normal lap band eating. No ill effects here. Oh, and in case you wonder about the quality of my medical advice, these are national centers of excellence surgeons.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
