Awesome, I am South too, Here is the link. (Each area has their own website) You will need to create an account to access everything - I think you need yours and sponsors ss#, etc. Once you have created it, log in, (make sure to change the drop down box to Beneficiary Services), then choose: Online Referral/Authorization Status. Good Luck!

Thanks! Since we talked I found site and registered but now I have to wait for a security code for about 10 days. I am so hoping I can get this done before it gets real hot here. Have you had the sugery yet? If so how long was your approval process?

I had surgery on Feb 19th. The long part was getting my Dr.s office to submit everything - once it got to Tricare, I was approved same day. :-) It will go fast, the wait is the hardest part.

I have my first doctor appointment Thursday. The hospital says, Tricare will not pay for the fills, but Tricare says the doctor has to file for it. Any of you heard this?

cool that you lived here! I haven't had surgery yet, because Portsmouth Naval Medical Hospital has a 6month waiting list. I am currently enrolled in prime, but to speed up the process, I am going to switch to standard. I am going to a seminar in Newport News tomorrow so hopefully I will know how long it will take to get surgery then.. It seems to me that tricare has been pretty quick with their decisions (from what i have heard from other people).. I haven't had anything to get approved by them yet. Where are you planning on getting surgery? How far along are you in the process? Like have you gone to the seminar and met with the surgeron?

I have gone to the seminar seen the surgeron nut eval blood emmi EKG and psych eval I am just waiting on approval. I have prime I did not know standard was faster. I will have it done at Martha Jefferson Hospital here. We are not near a military facility. I had my hystorectomy done Porstmouth. My husband is retired Air Force. Well keep in touch and let me know how things are going and I will do likewise. Maybe next year this time we will be in onederland.

Wow.. you are pretty much almost there!!! Hopefully your approval will come soon! Standard is only faster for me, because of the long wait at portsmouth... if i switch to standard, i will be able to go to a civilian surgeon. Tricare won't refer me to a civilian surgeon if I have prime, because I am near a MTF. Wish I wasn't though. I don't want to wait 6 mos! My husband is active duty Navy. Can't wait to make it to onderland! haha. I will add you as a friend on here so we can keep in touch!

I just called the 1800 Tricare phone number and asked if I had gotten approval and I am glad that I did, because I called to make my appt, and the Dr I had gotten approval for did gastric bypass only, and not the lapband, so I was able to call Tricare back and get it switched to the right Dr. My orientation meeting at Gateway hospital in Clarksville, TN is on March 17. :)

I just got approved by Tricare. I saw the surgeon on March 4th at Southwest Bariatrics and they submitted it to Tricare yesterday. Last night I checked Humana South and it was approved.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
