playing the waiting game

Recommended Posts

Hi all! This site was mentioned at my Lap band support meeting...great info! Well, I am currently waiting for final insurance approval! ( Completed the nutrition consult and psych eval ). I am beyond excited but nervous too. I have been fighting my weight all my life and have just had enough. I am finally able to say " I need some help" and the lap band will be that extra tool I need. I have been researching this for 2 years. ( I had looked at Gastric Bypass as 2 freidns had it but don't like the idea of "messing up the plumbing".) I am thankful to have found a site where I can find the support I need to help me thru this journey! I can't wait to be a LOSER!! lol Michelle

Thanks everyone! I have read so many great posts on here! I will admit I am a little scared and nervous. I found out my first ins request was denied. per the office this is exactly how Anthem handles the lap band request. They deny first and after the 1st appeal they approve. Seems kinda redundant to me. Anyway they are sending the appeal tomorrow and the insurance company has 20 days to give an answer.....

I read some of the posts that talk about death from surgery.I know this is a risk but I also know that everyday I do not lose this extra weight I am a ticking bomb. I am 5'3 and weigh 290..my BMI is 53. I know this surgery will be the tool I need to finally get control of my weight. I want to thank everyone for all the info they are sharing. Please feel free to ask me anything. You can email me directly as well. Iluvpalmtrz@aol.com. Have an awesome day! Michelle

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
