Leak Procedure

Hi Everyone,

Just wondering if anyone here has had a leak? What was the procedure to determine that you actually had a leak?

I've been banded for a year now and I've only lost 35lbs. My first fill was in May of last year of 1.8cc's. On my second fill, the doctor was only able to withdraw 1.2cc's of Fluid from the band. She said was normal for a small amount to disappear after a fill. She filled me to 2.6cc. I was restricted for about 1 month and then suddenly, I lost most of my restriction. I thought it was "just me" and figured I'd try working the band for a while. On February 15th, I went for another fill because I actually gained 5 lbs! THis time, the doctor was only able to withdraw 1.5cc's! He said we should try to fill again and see what happens. He filled me to 2.5cc. I was restricted pretty well. I couldn't eat in the mornings (only warm liquids slowly). At lunch, I had to eat soft foods and at dinner I could eat a small meal of more solid foods chewed well. I was so excited. I've lost 7lbs!

The last 2 days, I have just about NO restriction. I can eat almost anything (even in the morning) and dont have to chew well.

Has anyone had this happen to them? It seems weird that the liquid doesnt leak out right after the fill.

I'd appreciate any advice.

Yes Marsha, it has happened to a couple of others on this forum. Try P.M. Vera, she just had a leaked repaired. Best wishes to you, Teresa

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
