Starting a new chapter in my life.

Recommended Posts

I have raised all my children (30 years), put all on hold to take care of each of them. They are now on their own journeys. (Married, children, college) My husband and I have decided it is now my turn. I have been working on this for a little over a year now. I will be banded on the 24th of this month down in Mexico by Dr. Ortiz. Money was a small problem getting banded up here in the Pacific Northwest too expensive. I have been going through therapy, and a lot of other testing to make sure I am ready. I have diabetes, high blood pressure and asthma. This surgery is to make me healthy. I am ready to open a new chapter in my life. Very excited!!

Welcome. Glad you are doing something for yourself. Please be sure you have a plan with your Dr. for aftercare and how you will get fills in your band. Will you go back to Mexico for those? Be sure you have a way to get a hold of your Dr. if you have any problems/questions once you get back home. If you are not close to Mexico, that has been the biggest obstacle for others posting on the forum about Mexico.

Good Luck.

I plan on going to a small clinic in Arlington for my fills. I will talk to the doctors down there and see if I can call if I have questions or concerns. I still need to call the clinic (Arlington)and see if I can set up a time to see them after the surgery for a check up or whatever else I need to do. I have lot of questions in a small note book. Plan on taking it with me when I go so I don't forget anything.

Call the local clinic ASAP, some places will not see patients banded in Mexico or by any other DR. and you need a place to get fills.

I have done some inquiries and found this clinic is ran by two nurses that they themselves got banded in Mexico and no one would do their fills, so they decided to open this small clinic specifically for patients that have been banded.

Perfect, just wanted to be sure you were covered on that. I've seen people post on here that go to Mexico and don;t realize unitl they get back, that some U.S Dr's won;t take care of them.

Good Luck.

I have gone to a few of the informational seminars up here and they all said they do not do fills. That kind of discouraged me, plus the 18,000 to 25,000 for the surgery (self pay). I have been on this journey for a little over a year now, went to my first serminar last January. I thought I would never be able to do this. But I did not give up, I went on the internet and found the clinics in Mexico and then thought of the fills and where I could go. Just a lot of investigating. Also my personal Dr insisted on me getting some therapy, and some other test to make sure I could handle all this. I do have sleep apnea which I found out about a few days ago. Therapist says she is confident in my decision. Am just really looking forward to the life change.

You've done your homework, good for you. You wanted it bad enough to find a way to do it. I think that persistence will serve you well post op.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
