Am I too tight?

Recommended Posts

I got my 2nd fill yesterday. I have a total of 3cc's in my band. (only 4 cc's allowed). I am having a hard time even drinking liquids. I wasn't sure if I was having a hard time due to swelling or maybe I am just not used to what restriction should feel like. One minute I have problems with eating yogurt, oatmeal or drinking Water and then a hour later it goes down just fine. I know that food should stay in the pouch but if anything sits in there it is uncomfortable and like there is a weight on my chest. Is this normal? I was wondering if this is common for others and whether or not I am just feeling this because my fill was so recent and was wodnering if it would stop after swelling went down. Any advice is appreciated.

It seems to me that 3 ccs in a 4 cc band is a lot for only a second fill. I have the 4 CC band and the most I've ever been filled is 2.9. I'm at 2.7 right now. The important thing is how you feel. So, are you sliming a lot? Throwing up? Reflux? If not, I'd wait a couple of days and see how you feel then. Sometimes, it takes a day or two after a fill to get past the possible swelling of the stomach after a fill. If you have questions, tho, I'd for sure call my doc's office and talk to a nurse. You might just need a bit of an unfill. Even .1cc can make a HUGE difference!!

Yes, you are too tight. Please don't wait too long to get some Fluid out - that is a huge fill esp for a second fill. you want to go up very slowly esp in the beginning. Being too tight is probably going to result in my band being taken out next week. Here is what my doc gives to all fill patients now...caution are you too tight?

can't tolerate any solid food

can eat very small amounts of solid food (painful and only a little stays down)

can't tolerate liquids (this is an emergency)

regurgitation of swallowed foods (pbing)

heartburn (throat clearing apparently is a sign - this is MY note not the docs)

night coughing or choking

repeated pulmonary infections

constant abdomina pain worsened by eating or drinking.

these symptoms can appear immediately or a long time after a fill for no apparent reason; if you decide to wait there is ahigher risk of complications.

please take to heart -IF YOU DECIDE TO WAIT THERE IS A HIGHER RISK OF COMPLICATIONS.

a proper fill should restrict you in slight ways -you should be able to eat three (or maybe two -sometimes Breakfast is tighter) solid food meals. Personally I wouldn't have any fill level that doesn't allow me to eat THREE solid food meals a day in relative comfort-

good luck - don't wait -

mary

It's up to you. Do you mind it?

If not, enjoy the weightloss.

You do, go back for an adjustment to have some taken out.

Being too tight can cause problems so you and your doctor have to judge things to ensure that doesn't happen.

Good luck!

My Dr recommends full liquids for two days after a fill and then two days of soft food in case of swelling after a fill.

If after five to six days, you can't get solid food down (yogurt is not solid) then I would say you're too tight. But a day or two after a fill might be too early to tell, UNLESS you can't even get Water down, then you're too tight.

Our levels of restriction can vary throughout the day. some people are tighter in the a.m and find warm liquids best then.

I have the same size band as you. It took me a long time to get to 3 ccs. In fact, I am 21 months out and it took me probably a year at least to get there. I was at 2.9 for a long time now I am at 3.2. Look at this 2 ways okay. Either a. you are too tight. Too tight is when it is hard to take down liquids and solids can be a problem too. The second way to look at this per my doctor is there are 2 types of tightness. Tightness to liquids which is not good and tightness to solids. If you don't mind eating a softer diet and can still lose it is up to you whether or not you are too tight. In my case I can only eat 1-2 oz of Protein at a time but I am losing and am quite happy with that. You just need to see how you do on solids. Let me know what happens. 3 is agressive for 2nd fill. Good luck.

Hi All

I have been banded for a year and just got another fill about 5 days ago. I am now at 3 cc's in a 4 cc band. I have not had this good of restriction and feel like I finally am feeling truly what I should be. It's great however

I do feel just the slightest start of heartburn sometimes after I eat. It doesn't ever turn into full blown heart burn and after an hour I am fine. I am reluctant to get any taken out b/c I really like this amount of restriction. I have lost 60 lbs over the last year but really was able to eat fairly normally. I feel like now I will eat less and keep the weight loss going. (For the last 6 months I have only lost about 8-10lbs). Does anyone think this is a big deal? It doesn't bother me too much as it is slight and like I said before it doesn't turn into full blown heartburn. Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts.

Banded 2/12/07 - 260 lbs

Current weight - 200 lbs

You need to see how this is going to work itself out. Sometimes fills will loosen on their own. If you start pbing every day, and you know that you are taking eraser sized bites and chewing until it's liquid, then get some taken out. It may loosen on it's own. Make sure you wait in between bites and that they are very small bites.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
