Sour stomach???

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I've got this burning feeling in my throat and in my stomach...not burning like when I was bedresting (that was painful)...but more like a sour feeling. I am totally aware of a sour taste in my stomach and throat.

Call the surgeon? Just start prilosec on my own? What do you think? I don't think I am too tight...I eat a yogurt in the morning (can't do solids) but can normally have a bowl of Soup for lunch (without problem) and dinner is normal generally...I am having a harder time with chicken than I was, but I am able to eat an entire salad without difficulty...

Since this fill I've been definitely feeling the effects of the band more than I was before...But I don't think it's too tight...can you get a reflux thing even without being overfull?

Thanks in advance...

Oh...almost 8 months out...6.something in my 10cc band.

Gracias!

Rainer

I have experienced that too. I was getting that sour (almost acid) taste in my mouth after a single bite of chocolate or a sip of coffee.

I mentioned it to my gasterologist and it's basically reflux. Not horrid with mouthful of acid kind but still it's reflux. I've been on medication for it and when I take it like I should then I don't have an issue.

I would try the prilosec. If you still have trouble it may be time for a doc visit. I'm particularly tight right now and am not having any reflux or heartburn and I can only take my medicine about 1/2 the time.

good luck rain!!

Hi Rainer, There was a time when I had gotten .3 ccs in a fill. Immediately I felt burning in my stomach. Prilosec and Zantac helped a bit but more importantly a slight unfill helped the most. It took me a couple months then I was able to get back up to that level again without problem. Yesterday I did have some burning while drinking vodka with light cranberry juice but I worked through it with Prilosec. Most likely you need a slight unfill. Good luck.

Reflux is almost always a sign of something wrong with the band. Usually it is a too tight fill and a slight unfill will resolve it.

You will have to see your band surgeon about it. Letting it go, or just starting meds to alleviate the symptoms without finding out the cause, can be bad for you and your band in the long run. So many people who end up having to have their bands removed start out with these kind of symptoms and ignore them. If you have it treated promptly, you can avoid this. Good luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
