Does Anyone Know This??

Does anyone know what causes the port to flip? I thought they stitched it on really good. I don't understand how this could happen...:confused2:

I think it will flip if you are lifting, doing crunches before you have healed and sometime Sh*t happens  maybe they didn't stich it in well enought.

It is not uncommon. They do stitch the port in, but it is in soft tissue---and some just don't hold. The surgery to put it back in right is less invasive than the original banding surgery, and does not interupt your weightloss seriously. Look up FairyFacade on here----her name is Laura, she is part of the Shrinking Violets Group, and she had this happen. Looks like she will still make her 100 pounds lost in the first year!!!

Hope all goes well for you!

Kat

I've been wondering the same thing - I go for a fill on Tuesday and I have kinda been worried about this - it seems to me, that my port is actually -receeding- into my stomach a little - because I can't feel it as much as I could in the beginning - NOW, this may be because the swelling is going down or something????? who knows--- I just DO NOT want to go in there on Tuesday and them tell me they can't do a fill..... I will be devestated....

Yesterday during my fill my surgeon told his two fellows (I allow them to teach on me) that a port may flip or seem to flip because with the loss of visceral fat (under the muscle around the organs) the shape of the abdomen changes and since it is anchored the port may change direction. My port hasnt flipped but it has turned almost on its side. It is a complete hassle to get a fill, I was poked 4 times yesterday twice by the NP and twice by the dr.

Of course this most likely isnt the ONLY reason a port may flip, it is what my surgeon said.

Hi Azchick, what type of band do you have? I'm curious.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
