Hi, everyone I am from NC

I was banded on February 28, 2008. My weight was 301 on my surgery date.

I was so glad to find this forum, especially when I was reading what others were saying about cheating on their post op diet. I am having the same problem and feel so terrible. I have so much support with my family and don't want to let anyone down. They are all looking forward to seeing me lose weight as so as I am.

I am able to eat about whatever I was eating prior to surgery. I have no restriction and hope it will be better once I start receiving fills. Like others that have posted information I am hungry and think of food all the time, although I try not to it is so hard.

I have tried to keep it at mushy foods eg. canned or potted meats.

After reading some of the posts it has helped me to realize how important it is to stick to the post op diet. I plan to give it another try tomorrow and stick with liquids only.

I look forward to receiving posts from others that have been banded.

Thanks

Hunger will probably be what it was pre-band. The band cannot work until it is filled to a level that gives you restriction. In the meantime, it is important to follow the gradiated post-op diet. This gives the tissues, scarring, etc. around the band a chance to do what they need to do to heal and help ensure good, long-term band function.

I am having the same problem. I got the band thinking i wouldn't be able to eat so much. I have had at least 5 fills so now when I over eat I sometimes get sick especially if I eat too fast.I didn't have will power before so I don't now but every day I get up and try again

It is extremely important to stick with the post opt diet no matter what. You want everything to heal. You can do it!!!

Be blessed!

If your more than 6 weeks post op, this is the best time to start practicing the "rules of eating with a band".

small bites, well chewed, with a bit of a wait between bites and no drinking for one hour after the meal.

when you do get good restriction these habits will be very helpful to you.

If you are early post op then the best thing you can do is stay on the recommended stage, it's important for your inside to heal.

These are all new habits to learn and if we practice them, we get better every day until it becomes natural.

I was just banded a few days ago and it's hard b/c you think that you'll start to feel the effect of it immediately (feeling full, etc) and then you don't...and you have to wait 4 weeks until your first fill. ugh! I want to feel full now! patience is what i have to keep telling myself...and keep experimenting to find liquids that taste good so i will stick to the post-op plan. you can do it. i know you can.

Lise, you are so right. It took me almost three months to get a decent restriction. The band did give me some added willpower, but I knew I could have eaten a lot more. I used my old diet techniques to get me through these past 3.5 months. If I didn't I would have either gained or not lost another pound after surgery and I didn't like that option.

So many of us have been on diets numerous times anyway, so what's a few more months?

I know that's not why we got the band, but it was better for me than not losing after being banded.

I think I need a little more fill, but this one should be good for a few weeks and then I'll decide.

While I was "dieting" with my band. I practiced band rules of eating and it's getting so much easier now.

Thanks Lise, Always wish the numbers were going down faster, who doesn't? But you know, I'm eating enough that I don;t feel deprived and if I were more active (and younger) it could have been more, but I am happy with my results, so far.

Getting in enough Protein has been one of the things that has helped.

Hang in there until you get good restriction and it will get easier.

In the morning, I'm generally busy--but come mid-afternoon, I begin to get famished (around 2:30 - 3:00)--so I've switched my Protein shake time to then--and it makes me feel full right up until dinner time. Otherwise, I'd be looking at what munchies the girls in my office have out front!!!

This time is short, so please try to bear with it--we all had to do it, so I know you all can too!!

I have definitely wanted some stuff during my post op diet, but FEAR has been a great motivator. No way am I eating anything that might cause my band to slip!!!!

I am new to this too, but am to the solid food stage. Please, please stick to the plan. I used Carnation Instant Breakfast sugar free for my whole liquids time. It tastes good, to me, and kept me full. When I was hungry I added Crystal Light to my Water and that helped to fill me up more than just Water.< /p>

This, too, shall pass. I had homemade healthy pizza today. Was sure I would want some more by at least 8 pm. Not so, I'm still full, and I wasn't stuffed at 4. I feel extremely blessed, but I know you can do it.

The progression of liquids to mush to solid will help your tummy to heal without mishap so they can fill it asap and not have to wait longer because your tummy moved it around and didn't let it heal quickly .

I know exactly what you are going through, but it does get better. I was banded in 02/05 and it was slow going the first 4 months. Looking back, and giving advice, patience is the key. In these last 3 years, I ended up losing 100 lbs, had the band slip, had to have emergency surgery and have been scared ever since to get a fill. I've regained 50 lbs and am finally ready to go in for a fill to start over. If I had been patient and had listened to all the advice, taken baby steps, and not beating myself up all the time, I think it may have been an easier road. Use this time to learn how you should eat when you are adequately filled, go easy on yourself and do as much as you can to stick to the diet, but don't berate yourself too much when you mess up. You are having typical results and the weightloss will happen over time.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
