Dr. JLo - Question about gallbladder scar

Recommended Posts

Dr. JLo,

Have you done a TT on a patient with a large gallbladder scar? My scar is about six inches long diagonally on the right side. I've been told that this may be a problem. I, also, have scars for lap band surgery, 2 c-sections (vertical), hysterectomy (horizonal), and appendectomy.

Has anyone out there had a TT who had a scar gallbladder?

Thank you.

im obviously not Dr. JLo, but I just had an extended TT and have a 'zipper' scar from a gall bladder out. i'll see if i have a pic of my (really new/gross looking) belly button and will post it on my blog.

ljm - Thank you for the photos. I have been watching your progress since early January. You gave me the confidence to go forward with my own TT. I got insurance approval yesterday. I am scheduled to have the TT on April 18th. I am very excited. My PS said that there may be some concern with the gallbladder scar. May have to revise later, or something like that. Yours didn't have any concern? Mine looks like a zipper. I never knew that it was called that.

congrats on insurance approval and a date!!

my (unsolicited) advice, do some major squats and arm exercises. i was cussing my trainer while she was making me do them awhile ago, but when i was trying to get up and moving i was singing her praises! i would have been dead in the Water without my arm and thigh muscles!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
