I'm being banded on 19th March

I work as a family doctor so mostly sitting all day and at the moment I plan to return to work on day 6 post op. Is this sensible?

How long did you take off work? How was it when you returned?

I am asking for surgery on a weds and will return on a monday.. So I will return on the 5th day. I have a desk job and do not do alot of moving around thankfully.

Most folks that I've spoken to said take two weeks if you have it but a week (7 days) may work if you have a desk job - no lifting, high reaching, etc.

I was off a total of 8 work days. However, I also had a Hiatel Hernia removed at the same time so I needed a little more recovery.

I'm having my lap band procedure on Wed. March 12th. I'm taking off through March 24 (Easter Monday). I figured, about 12 days would be perfect... I have a desk job as well... but I just want to be really comfortable with my after band behavior. Plus I have a lot of vacation time, might as well take the spring break while I can!

I also have an office job. I took 2 weeks off and needed it. I was in the hospital 4 days. It so differs with each individual. Some people seem to bounce back beautifully and others it just seems to take a bit longer, like me. I'd take 2 weeks if I were you, go back sooner if you're feeling up to it. But by planning the 2 weeks it will give you some cushion if you need it. Good luck to you! Dianne

Gordon, I planned on two weeks but only took 3 days off. I had surgery on Monday 2/25/08 and retuned to work Thurs. 2/28/08. I have a job that requires a good amount of time at a desk and alot of walking. My biggest problem came when I sat for long periods. When I was up and moving I actually felt better (as long as I did not bend over or rotate at the waist).

It will ultimately depend on you and your tolerance to the pain.

I had my surgery on a Friday, 15 boys at my house on Sunday for a 10th birthday party and back to work on Wednesday. I am an RN. I could not lift patients for 1 month but otherwise I felt great!

I think six days is plenty. I was ok within a week and I had a hernia repaired as well, had swelling I suspect becasue of the hernia, longer than others on here have mentioned.

Good Luck, I wish I could have heard you speak in person, when you asked that question. Love that scottish accent!

My 2 cents worth:

I scheduled 2 weeks off. Had surgery on a Friday. Caught a cold somewhere around the time of my surgery. Cold symptoms were just kicking into high gear at my 1 week post-op. Doc said I could return to work the following Monday. I returned part-time and wish I had taken the second week off.

This week (week 3) I am back full-time and felt ready to return.

I have a desk job and found it uncomfortable to sit last week. I had to remember to get up and move and stretch often or I'd pay when I tried to stand up.

My back is very sore every day by the time I get off work, but it is bearable and I use a heating pad when I get home.

Denise

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
