My day's almost here....

I'm Tamra from WV and I'm having the lap band soon! My doctor is Dr. Velcu at Louisa, KY. I'm very excited and nervous.

I feel like I've been waiting forever! I started my process about 7 or 8 months ago, and it seemed like forever. So now it's here, March 11th! I must admit, I am a little nervous. I've started liquids and that's hard, but I'll survive. All advice welcome!

Welcome Tamra! Your long wait is almost over. The liquid stage is tough, but you just have to keep your eye on the prize at the end, which is your band.

Let us know how you are doing.

Yeahhh - I'm so excited for you! You are going to do great. It's not as scary as it seems and the surgery goes by so quickly. I've been keeping a blog of everything that happens after surgery so you should check it out (link below). I've posted recipes, tips on how to cope with Constipation (yes, it's not fun) and more. Best of luck - you're about to change your life!

wow tuesday, good for you!! i was banded this past wednesday 3/5. the liquids just are short term, and after the surgery i really haven't been hungry, ate because healing is my main goal right now. i would recommend making sure you have your pain meds and take them. it can be uncomfortable after surgery but nothing your meds can't handle. move as soon as you can and get rid of the gas they use for inflation. eat smart, don't cut corners and eat what you are SUPPOSED to eat. it is a short period in your life, you will be fine. long term is the goal and you will have an excellent tool to be healthy and happy. listen to your body and realize when you are full and leave the extra food behind. it is not a waste, it is what will make you healthy. i have felt better each day after surgery and am aware of what my body is telling me. i have had to slow down and listen and not be in a hurry. best wishes and a speedy recovery. g2s

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
