WoW! I made it through surgery and so far 5 days post surgery! I was so nervous! I have had a rough go these last few days! I got the flu and was down with that for 3 days, fever, chills, no energy, gas pain TERRIBLE and last but not least nausea and throwing up! Talk about HELL! I am finally among the living today and feeling like I am going to make it - YEH!!!! I am excited for my new journey and I love reading all of your posts. I had surgery in Blackfoot, ID by Dr. Avila and was very impressed with him and the staff. I came home the same day. The gas pain in my chest is finally gone (I have to say that is probably the worst part!) and of course the flu! My stomach is sore, like I have done a lot of crunches, but other than that I am feeling great today!

CONGRATS on your first five days! I lost the most weight (14 lbs) during my first 10 days post-op. Then it gets tricky until you start getting fills. Whatever you do, don't beat yourself up during this time. It actually took me 4 fills to have good restriction. Of course, everyone is different. I just wanted to give you a heads up!

GOOD LUCK!!!

its a rewarding journey.

my surgery date: 12-10-07

CONGRATS on your surgery. I'm glad you are feeling better. I know what you men about the gas pain. I can't imagine having the flu on top of that.

Today is my 8th day banded and also got the flu. My whole family has it now because we brought it home from the hospital with us. One of my nurses had it. The gas was real bad for me too but it stopped yesterday completely. I have alot of restriction. I can only eat about 4 ounces of food at a time. It is hard to get it in actuall I am not getting it all in. It is impossible at this point. I wish you well

The flu? Poor you! I thought I had it bad by bringing home a cold from the hospital. I just had a cough...but vomitting after surgery? eeek!

Glad you are feeling better.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
