Where do you live?

I live in metro Atlanta, Georgia. I've lived in the state my whole life and would like to see the rest of the country if I can convince my DH at some point.

I have lived 20 miles southeast of New Orleans for 43 of my 46 yrs. Enjoyed the local Cajun cuisine way too much and paying the price.

BigUnc...I love the cajun food....my dad is from Louisiana. A little bitty town located near DeQuincy called Fields, LA. The Saints are great, love them...although not over my boys!! ha!! LSU is an awesome school, I pulled for them in the BCS game. My daughter is checking into transfering there next year. That'd be so cool if she went to a school with an awesome football team. Even though I don't watch a lot of college & the pros are my thing, it'd still be cool. My daughter doesn't like football (I believe she was switched at birth because every human being in my family that still has a pulse is a football fanatic) so I told her yeah....apply to LSU. ha!!! When she did some research on it, she became more interested. I'd love to go to New Orleans, never been.

Grew up in Chicago area - a happy Hoosier now (Go Colts!). Live just north of Indy in the subdivision right behind my surgeon's office! Who knew health was less than a mile away the whole 7 years I've lived here!

I live in Lexington, SC (right outside Columbia). I grew up in Spartanburg, SC and have lived in a couple of other towns in this state. I lived in California for a year when I was small and in Colorado for 2 years in my 20's. I love SC, though! I'm 1 1/2 hrs from the beach and 1 1/2 hrs from the mountains! And where else can you use your heat and a/c in the same day?

Most of my live was spent in the Metro Detroit area, but I've been in Ohio for 4.5 years and I LOVE it. Maybe not the winter weather so much, but otherwise.

From October - April I'm pretty much vowing to move to Florida. But the rest of the months I'm happy. LOL

I love Alaska. It's my favorite place in the world. Been there twice on business and am always awed by the beauty there. What do you do for work Leather?

I'm a high school teacher. What part of Alaska did you visit? You should bring family (or friends) up and go down to Homer and go out Halibut fishing, its pretty cheap to do and lots of fun. Plus fish is good for us bandsters. :)

Leather:

how long have you been banded? I see you just joined the forum in January, me too. I was banded Oct/07 (Halloween). I love my band. I've lost 35 lbs.

I was banded on February 14th. I'm starting to love my band too, its not doing all the work for me but it sure is helping me manage my eating better. Im still new at it but so far this is great! :)

Leather, I'm jealous of you too! My grandfather had the privilege of visiting every state in the U.S. and he told me Montana was the most beautiful by far. Because of what he said I got it in my head when I was little that I wanted to move to Montana and be a rancher. :) I've never even been on a horse! :confused2:

Alaska is nice but I'm with your grandpa, I think Montana is the best, I really really love it there. And as for horses go, don't even bring that up, I SO miss riding when I am up here in Alaska working:sad:. Too cold for horses where I work so I can only do that when I'm home. Luckily I do spend a lot of time in Montana and when Im there I ride every day.

Now that you guys know I'm a HS teacher don't judge me for my spelling. :)

cowboyfsan if you ever have the oppourtunity you need to visit NO. Great city with a great history. On weekends this time of year my DW and I like to spend the day walking thru the French Quarter. Its nice weather without being humid and hot. If you like music, shopping, good food (I know not something us banders need to hear) and site seeing then you will love the Quarter. We plan to go this Sunday with my Kids and their SOs.

A word of caution, NO is like any other tourist attraction, expensive. Be prepared to shell out money for everything you do.

I will have to change up our routine a little. After walking around awhile 1st, We usually have a big lunch, kick back listen to good music and enjoy the sites. This time I'll have a "little lunch" than go from there.

I am a big sports fans also. Saints and LSU are tops on my list, but I do follow the Hornets and Zephyrs also. I try to go to one away game every year for both the Saints and LSU.

I live in San Antonio Texas - GO SPURS GO. I too would love to take a trip to Alaska. I've seen some awesome pics taken on some cruises in the area. I have an uncle who lives in Chelan Washington and I'm hoping to make my way up there in the next year or two. If I do that, Alaska's right around the corner.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
