So glad I found this thread!

I made it through bandster hell - no problems.

Made it through Easter - no challenges I couldn't overcome.:purplebananna:

HA! me thinks. I can do it. Positive thinking, keep busy, you are stronger than your 'need to feed'....blah blah blah.

Then, my mother arrives for a visit...First night, watching an old movie, and I make a snack (peanuts/popcorn/pretzels/shreddies with a carmel coating) for her, Crystal Light for me. Then, I started...first I tasted a few peanuts (good Protein, a snack is ok). Then a few more, then a few popcorn bits (one at a time, chew thoroughly, that's ok)...before I know it, the 6 cups (which were to do 3 movie nights for my mother) were gone...OMG!!!

Becca - I am so impressed with your weight loss - congratulations! I am too busy feeling guilty for my excessive eating to feel jealous!

Thanks - it's just hard feeling like I don't have any "help" with the band because I'm well aware of my dieting issues before the band and how much I need help. But thanks.

I was banded 12/31. Lost 20 lbs first month - 5 in the second month. It's now APRIL 7, and NOTHING MORE, as a matter of fact, I gained a lb and a half. Talk about feeling like a failure!!

I, too, have learned to eat around the band - and that makes me feel like the old 'failure' before I got the band!! Why did I have surgery if I'm going to defeat myself??? I KNOW I need to make better choices about what I eat, but even with great restriction, I can eat way too much - I just wait for the fullness to go away, and I take ANOTHER bite.....until the whole thing is gone. It's like a MISSION with me - I HAVE to eat the whole thing or in my sick mind, I'm NOT full. What's up with that? I'm having emotional eating issues - really bad.

2008 has not been kind to me - work has been an absolute living H*LL and I broke up with my boyfriend whom I thought was "the one"....so needless to say - the emotional issues were THERE......how can I get motivated again???

When: This weekend

Where: Cheesecake Factory

What: White chocolate Raspberry Truffle

How Much: Just half a piece...but with coffee

Why: I really have no idea

So your over half way to goal and ate a half of piece of cheesecake. You didn't eat the WHOLE cheesecake or even the whole piece of cheesecake. No biggie, unless you do it everyday.

Nothing to confess in my book.

did you enjoy it? Hope so! This is life and some of it should be lived within reason and a little of it to excess. It's the balance that counts.

I love cheesecake. Sounds like a place I should avoid until I'm closer to goal.

It was wonderful. Every little bite. And just to be extra decadent - I scraped the big pile of whipped cream off of it and dumped that in my coffee.

And really - it's not the cheesecake that's the problem. The problem is I make one little error, and then it snowballs into - "oh well, I might as well enjoy the weekend and get back on track Monday". Except, I didn't exactly get back on track Monday. In fact - today, I ate a whole bag of popcorn at the movies. My 8 year old son says to me, "Mommy, I thought you said you couldn't eat popcorn anymore." Nice....so, I reply, "Yes, I did say that, and even mommies make mistakes sometimes", but I don't think he heard me through my mouthful of popcorn (extra butter please).

HI,I'm new to ALL of this. I'm interested in having the lapband done. But,I'm a bit concerned with the ability to "eat around" the band. I,too,am an emotional eater and "I'll start Monday" is a favorite of mine! Is it worth the surgery? I've tried every diet known to mankind and have been overweight my WHOLE life...even as a child...now in my late 50's. What do you think?? Thanks so much

Well you must be doing something right. You've been banded two months and lost more than I have in over four months.

But I understand completely about once you start.....hard to stop. That was always my downfall pre-band. I would eat perfect for weeks and let in one piece of cake and it was all over.

The band does seems to help, now if I could just get to good restriction....:frown:

You described me except I describe myself as a binge eater... all or nothing. One small cup of ice cream... yeah right... not if there is an entire 1/2 gal. in the freezer.

Anyway, this is the least I have weighed in over 20 years and I am the same age as you. Yes, weight loss is going slower now than it was in the beginning but I expected that and at least it's going down. Pre-band, I was struggling to NOT GAIN more weight.

I learned years ago, I cannot be trusted with ice cream, defintely not tostitos and a few other foods like that in the house, so they are not in my house. The band has given me extra willpower to just say no to certain treats and defintely to choose portion sizes better.

But you can eat around the band. you can eat around gastric bypass, too. Still, the band is better than doing nothing and continuing to gain weight.

I need to lose 100 pounds for normal BMI, I'd love to lose 75 or 80 pounds and I'd be fine and happy if it ends up at 60 pounds that stays off. I'd still be fat but better off than before and already way more comfortable in my own "saggy" skin.

It's TOTALLY worth it. Here's the difference.

Pre-band night "naughty" dinner out: Huge Pasta dish w/ garlic bread, salad with ranch dressing, glass of wine. Dessert - large piece of cheesecake, cappuchino

Post-band night "naughty" dinner out: Order steamed scallops - eat half of them, eat a few bites of salad and a few sips of wine. Order the cheesecake, but split with husband, drink Decaf with dessert.

Ideal Band night out: Grilled chicken salad with blue cheese - eat half, take home half. No dessert, wine or drinking with meal.

So you see that with the band....even when you're "bad", you CAN'T be as bad as you used to be.

I spent the last 10 years dieting myself up to almost 300 lbs. I started my band journey in January of this year - and I've already lost half of my excess weight. Oh yes....it's worth it.

I got my first fill yesterday (3cc in a 5 cc band). I begged the surgeon to NOT EVEN think of being conservative & told him of my situation these last two weeks. I even GAINED 2 lbs. He gave me a good fill, some encouragement & made me sit in the office 30 min drinking Water to make sure it stayed dowm.

All went well.

I was full the rest of the day with sips of Water & chicken broth. Hope the restriction remains, I'm obviously weak without it!

 I must confess you have been putting a smile on my face w/your confessions. Thanks, I feel better knowing I'm not alone & there are other struggling bandsters out there.

I paid out of pocket & I think its all totally worth it. The last 2 weeks, especially since easter, have been disastreous...BUT no nearly as bad as it could have been without the band.

I agree with you 100%. I used to just eat bread as a snack. I am addicted to bread. I love it so freaking much. Give me a glass of milk and a loaf a bread and I wouldn't need anything else. Weird, yes, unhealthy, totally.

Now I eat grapefruit, or apples for Snacks. Or I have one of those little packs of tuna.

Being naughty in a much less naughty way.

While DH and children are busy playing video games, I sneak bites of bacon, telling myself that I am just eating the burnt bits. The dog sits nearby me with a shaming look on his face, which says, "If that was really burnt you'd give it to me....and hey - aren't you on some sort of diet?" I tell the dog to shut up and nibble bacon until my stomach starts to gurgle in protest.

You are so flippin' hilarious!!! I love your posts! And I have to ask...just how big is your church if it has its own coffee bar???

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
