Scheduled for 3/12/2008! And SCARED!

Recommended Posts

:unsure:Hi everyone!! I know I am lucky that I am scheduled so soon (one week from today!!) but I am suddenly scared - that it won't work, that I'll be really sick and feel awful. I feel like everything I learned in my pre-surgery classes has gone from mind - guess I better read everything over again and go shopping for some Liquid Protein. I am nervous! What if it doesn't work? Or if the doctor weighs me and I've gained a pound before the surgery! Will he still do it?

I think we all go through some fear before surgery. At least I did. I was scared, but I was determined to go through with this life-changing process. I had to weigh the options and pros and cons, and discuss my fears honestly with my surgeon. Ultimately, the decision is yours. I was banded 2 weeks ago, and I am so glad I did it!

My surgery is schedule for April 24th and I keep flip-flopping from being excited to being scared. I'm more scared about not being able to take advil for two weeks prior to surgery. I have arthritis in my neck and I live on advil. Oh well, I guess I'll see what happens.

I'll be anxious to hear how you make out.

Hello, Klf and tskelli... thanks for starting this post. I've been on this forum since January (when I first seriously looked in to the band) and now I'm also getting banded on March the 12th.

From what I read on LBT, everyone does go through this phase before the surgery and some even after the banding has been done. The first 6 weeks after the band can be tough for some and others seem to make it sound like a breeze.

I'm thankful for my surgeon and his staff for giving so much information and also thankful for this site which helps me beyond belief.

I know these things about being banded:

1. I am confident that I made the right decision.

2. I worry if I made the right decision.

3. This will be the biggest change of my adult life.

4. I will loose weight.

5.

oops... I hit the wrong button and posted too soon.

I wanted to add to the things I've learned...

5. I will find a way to deal with my emotional eating.

6. This band will be my friend and I can work with it or against it.

7. AND, if I don't fool myself and I DO work with the band, I will be successful, happy and proud. Yay!

Good luck to both of you and look forward to hearing all about YOUR successes!

klf... yes, please lets do keep in touch. We can be excited and nervous together!

To add signature stuff to the bottom of your posts. Go to your profile page. Select Edit Signature (will be a list on the right of your screen). You can add your name, data if you want and insert pictures. Also, to start your own ticker, double click on my ticker (or anyone's) and it will take you to the link that will let you set-up your own ticker. It's fun.

Can't wait to keep in touch as we make this great change in our lives!

Sheri

Yes, I think we all go through that phase. I was terrified the day before my surgery, but all turned out fine. I was banded on Halloween 07 & have lost 35 lbs to date, (oops I need to change my ticker don't I?). I'm very pleased that I did it, and would not change a thing. It'll be tough at first, but you can do it. We're all here for you.

omigod you lost 20 pounds in two weeks!??

The weight is coming off pretty quickly right now. I'm sure that will taper off some after I'm able to eat solid food. Right now, I'm still on the liquid phase. I can eat mushy food next week. I'm not hungry, though. When I do get hungry, Soup or a Protein shake do the trick.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
