One week post op and feeling dizzy

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I was banded 2/26 and have been on a liquid diet since (soup, yougurt, juice etc). This morning when I got up I felt light headed and have felt that way all day. Today is my first day back in work (office job-not strenuous) but my brain is a bit muddled and I feel faint when I stand quickly or bend over?

Do i need more Protein or would it be something else? Help!

I haven't been banded yet but I have had the same symptoms you are describing. Turns out I was a bit dehydrated. You might want to contact your doctor just to be on the safe side.

How many calories are you consuming? How much Protein? And how much Water? Too little of any of these things can cause dizziness.

Give us some more info so we can try to help you figure out what's going on.

I had the same problem (dizziness), and it still happens occasionally. I spoke with my doctor about it, and he thought it was due to dehydration. So, I've been trying to drink more, and it has improved.

Hope all goes well for you!

I would maybe add another yogurt drink or Protein shake. It sounds like you're just not getting enough calories and Protein.

Again, though, make sure to talk with your doctor about it, he may not want you taking in any more than that at this point. But DO make sure you're drinking enough Water, my doc's goal for me was 64 ozs of Water every day, on top of anything else I'm drinking.

Really push fluids. This happens to me too. I thiink our BP are going down a little fast for our bodies to adjust to. Your Dr may have to adjust your BP med. Meanwhile you can keep it up by drinking lots more.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
