Won a trip to Vegas - Scared because have never flown

Recommended Posts

I'm not afaid of flying but I'm afraid of being crowded in with lots of bodies. My greatest fear is being in the middle of a 3 person row. Esp. if they are strangers. Tranqulizers don't help a bit. They just make me dopey. I like trains much better. Guess I'm not much help. But I have heard that you are many times more likely to get in a car accident than a plane crash. Maybe that will help.

Thanks for all the great advice and support guys, I really appreciate it. The trip isn't until the 3rd week of April, so I think I am going to try and get in to see my doctor and see if he will prescribe something to help me relax.

Also, thanks for the heads up about restriction being greater while flying. I will definitely keep that in mind and be careful.

I too was very fearful of flying. The first time I flew I had gotten some valium from my doc, just 2 pills, one for the ride there and one for the ride back. Turned out I took the one for the ride there but then I didnt need it for the ride back. I have also not noticed one bit of difference in my band when I fly.

Sometimes, but not always. So far I can't really make any connections. I can fly somewhere 10 times, and maybe 6 or 7 of them I'm really really tight. Sometimes it begins while in the air, sometimes it begins a day or two after landing. I used to think it was destination. I do a lot of travel to Florida, so maybe the humidity, but then I'd think it would be more consistent. *shrug* Chicago is another common destination for me. Of the last 10 times I've been, maybe 4 I've had trouble. Once started during drink service en route - I could barely get my apple juice down. But I was ok a day after landing. It really makes no sense.

I know. It's so weird. I was a lot more careful on the way home from my last trip after having to sleep sitting up.

I have to fly again in May. I take a little tiny plane to get to Portland. It doesn't go as high so I am able to eat in Portland during my lay over. On the way home is another story. I fly from Phoenix to Portland and I can not eat at all during the lay over. I can even feel my band like it's squeezing my stomach.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
