Hello All,

I am new to this group and i have just had my surgery almost a week ago on 2/27/08. I am still on Clear Liquids but I am starving! Has anyone else felt this way. I see my doctor this Thursday and i hope I can go on to full liquids soon. Also i don't feel full after eating i worry my band is not tight enough. .Are there any folks out there from NJ ?

Chris,

Congrats on your band. I was just banded on March 1st. I have been on a liquid diet for 2 weeks prior to the surgery and of course since. I am finding the Protein drinks are really helping me manage my hunger. I am drinking powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein Drinks. They are working great for me. I am also drinking Water and G2. Also just today I started brothe and bullion.

The other thing I have done a couple of times when I felt like eating was to go for a 15 minute walk. I must admit, I also went shopping the on Sunday and bought a shirt to help motivate me.

I hope this helps a little. Just know you are not alone. Others are in the same spot and on the same path in the journey. Good luck!!!

Michael

Hi Chris,

I'm in NJ too. In the beginning you will get hungry as the swelling goes down. Most of the initial restriction is swelling, very little has to do with the band size, even if you have a 4cc.

Most likely your band is empty. I didn't have anything put in my band at the time of surgery, it wasn't filled unitl 5 weeks post-op. You can look up "bandster hell" as that's what that time period is considered to be.

Getting to the full liquid and then mushie stage is going to help a lot with the hunger you're experiencing. Just hang in there until Thursday.

Hi Chris,

I'm not in Jersey, but I too just got banded, on April 7 08. Im back at work and now that I have started to move around more, walking to work etc. my hunger level is almost constant. Im seeing my surgeon for my first post op visit in a week. Has your hunger settled down at all since you last saw your surgeon? Im drinking a lot of liquids, which helps a little bit. Im onto the soft foods phase in a couple of days and really hoping that helps quell this gnawing in my gut!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
