Wow!! I decided to look into doing the lapband just recently. My pcp suggested speaking to a surgeon who specializes in it and I had an appointment the next day. Im self pay so there are no insurance hurdles to jump. By the end of the two hour appt I had surgery scheduled for the 19th!!! I have two weeks to get everything done. My psych eval is tomorrow and next week I see the nutritionalist. Im very excited. My BMI is 43 right now. I have severe back problems and also have to see a spinal surgeon. Hopefully after the surgery and the weight starts coming off the back problem will resolve. My biggest concern now is that I have a trip planned for three days after the surgery. I can't change it as it is a memorial for my mom who passed away in December. It should be quite an experience. :rolleyes2:

Good for you!

When I decided on the Lapband, I took a week or two to interview surgeons. Once I decided on that...my surgery was in a few weeks, too. Could have been sooner but I had to make arrangements for my three children (am single parent)

Congrats!

Congrats! I did the same thing - I recently decided to look into it, now I've got my funding, my pre-op date, and my surgery date. My boyfriend and I are going to book our hotel and flight tonight (Going to Denver to Dr. Kirshenbaum's office!). It's happening to quickly...I can't believe it!

I can't wait! My BMI is 41, and I'm ready to really work. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
