Hi all!

I'm new to the site and just getting on my way with the lap-band. I have been medically approved and have my psyche eval on the 19th. I'm paying myself so I'm sure it will go fairly fast and I'll be banded sometime late April. Funny - banded sounds like we're a bunch of carrier pigeons!

Anyway, thank God for you all. This site is going to be a lifeline for me, I can tell. My husband and I have decided to tell only a few family members about my surgery. I'll tell my sisters but I just don't want to open myself up for some of the comments and reactions that I know some of you have had to deal with. I was thrilled to find this site. You have already answered so many questions for me!

About myself: I'm 47 years old and 5'5" at 251lbs. I have a BMI of 41 right now and seem to be a prime candidate for the band. My doctor told me to do it last fall but it seemed so extreme at the time. I don't know why. Have been "dieting" my way to this weight for 35 years! The only time I have lost a large amount of weight was about 7 years ago when my first husband died suddenly. It was a horrible way to lose and I have gained it all back and then some. My back hurts, legs hurt, ankles hurt.......you know the story.

I see the success of the band and I'm really starting to get excited about having a second chance to enjoy my life.

Thank you all for being here. Wish me luck!

Jeannie

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
