looking for support/ encouragement

Recommended Posts

I’m getting banded March 24th and I’m really excited but I am also terrified. I know this is the right choice for me and I have thought about it for two years. Although I am secure in my decision sometimes I feel like this is too extreme and I should just give dieting one more chance but I have been dieting for 11 years. I know that the more I postpone it the more weight I will gain. I guess what I am looking for is some encouragement/support. I don’t know anyone with the lap band and although my family is supportive I don’t feel like they understand what I am going through.

Well , I have been banded for almost eight months and I am so..... glad I did it.I feel great and I look great. I have re-joined the living and come out of hiding. You have to do your part, but it is well worth it. Best of luck. Keep us posted. Donna

I've been banded for almost 4 years now and I cannot even begin to express in words how much happier and healthier I am now. Getting the Lapband was one of the best things I've ever done for myself and for my family. I want to be around to see my grandchildren and enjoy what life has to offer.

The surgery won't take long, you'll have some fears and concerns, then it will be over and you'll start a new wonderful chapter in your life.

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery!

Tricia

At first I thought it was "extreme" to have surgery to fix this problem, but now that's it's done, it doesn't feel extreme. I don't have flags waving on top of my head that announces to the world "I had lap band surgery", so it just feels like me but now I eat less.

People get lasix surgery to fix their eyes, boob jobs, knee replacements, insulin pumps. We color our hair, whiten our teeth, wear earring aids. They are all things we do to look better, feel better and function better. Coloring our hair won't make us healthier, Lap band surgery will.

I'm not saying your wrong to have those feelings, they are normal feeling before surgery. Just want you to know I felt the same and now I don;t think of it the same way.

Good Luck on your journey.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
