Surgery Scheduled 03/28/08

Recommended Posts

After a long journey, I have surgery date scheduled. I am looking forward to it, but have started to wonder if it is going to be as "big a deal" as I am hoping. I am 5 10 and weight 270, I have fought for years with weight and finally decided last June that I needed to do this-so now that all the insurance stuff has been met, I am ready to do it. I haven't told anyone except my husband, because he has to drive me to and from the hospital-so hoping for some support here. :rolleyes2:

My road has been long also and i finally have a date of 4/14/08. i am 5'4 and 242lbs. I have told anyone who would listen about that i am getting the band but that does not mean i am not very worried that this will just fail also. Our banding dates are very close so maybe we can just support each other! Good luck and keep in touch

Congrats P Nut  I have yet to be banded. I have 1 more appt for my pre op requirements.

I wish you the best in your surgery and a fast recovery. The band isn't a mircale worker.. it's a tool. If you use this tool right you cannot fail :w00t:

We have the same band date... I understand what you are saying about feeling like you need support. I still haven't told anyone that I am getting the lap band. I'm really just hoping that the results will speak for themselves.:sneaky:

Congratulations. We're about the same height, I may be a tad taller. I was banded at over 380 lbs and am now down into the 230s. Best of luck on your journey.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
